Steel and choke threads ?

Never found an answer in the search function so :
If you shoot steel shot out of a shotgun ( over under 12g Baikal ) with interchangeable chokes will it beat up the threads if the chokes are removed
Can the chokes be left in ?
Thx it’s a friends shotgun and I would like to hive him the correct advise

You’re not suppose to shoot anything out of a barrel with the chokes removed. Not sure why anyone would even consider that. Put in chokes that are approved for steel and you’re good. Usually chokes that are modified and more open are appropriate for steel shot

Shooting any shotgun with the chokes removed will ruin the threads. Never ever shoot a shotgun without a choke installed.

Thx , he had been told to remove them to shoot steel and it wasn’t sitting right with me .

Absolutely not! The barrels will be damaged by doing so. If he wants to shoot steel, he’ll be fine using the Improved Cyl and modified chokes that came with the gun

Whoever gave that advice has no clue, ignore them.

Best advice here is keep your distance from the provider of this advice. Don't buy anything from him either.
