Please excuse me if this has been discussed already....

Needed to pick up some ammo today, my LGS had what looked like a good price on Winchester USA Forged Steel Case Ammo (9mm-115 grain). Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this stuff.
Box lists non corrosive boxer primer and clean burning powder as a couple of the positive attributes. 150 rounds worked out to about 23 1/3 cents per before tax compared to 32 cents for the cheapest brass they had.

Interweb shows very mixed reviews.
 
The forged shot well in my cx4, but it has some sort of lubrication that turns everything black. Wiping them off before handling or loading helped but was a pain and time consuming.

Thanks Mulby. My concern I guess is that there's a number of reviews that talk about repeated stove pipes and FTE's

That has to do with the CX-4 being a blow-back operation. Black cases are normal and clean-up nicely. Nothing to do with lubrication or lack of same.
 
It would not feed and stove pipe non stop in my np22.i hated the stuff, but i decided to try it in my fx9 and it was no problem at all.

Ya I don't know whether to clean off that lubricating stuff or just leave it. It does turn my hands black just handling it so I have to wonder what residue it's leaving in my gun.

I am going to take it to the range this weekend and run some through my Sig. I guess I will find out soon enough

I saw a video on YouTube talking about long term storage of this type of ammo. They advise to not touch with bare fingers, it will take that coating off and could cause to start to corrode. So I think it is intended to prevent corrosion over long term maybe.
 
I've been shooting it off and on for about a month now. No better or worse than any other bargain ammo out there in terms of cleanliness. I've had a few FTF/FFE's, but no more or less than other ammo. It's cheap and works OK for range shooting if you are not concerned about picking up brass for reloading. I guess if you are getting it for use in the near future, no worries about long term storage.
