Steel Cased Ammo

Tachead, you have single handidly convinced me to run steel cased, copper plated steel projectiles in my ATRS AR. 1000 rounds at least on the first range visit. My poor dillon is going to be sad I didn't load my first 1000 on it!

I meant if you only shot 50 rounds of corrosive you would still have to do a full disassembly and cleaning when you got home. I shoot hundreds of rounds in my SKS and only clean when I get home as well. I didnt mean you would have to replace your gun all the time. I meant that shooting steel case/steel jacket could cause more wear in turn wearing your guns out faster. Thats all. And thats fine if you dont agree with it. Do whatever you want with you firearms. I just dont shoot it in my high end ones because of the risks I outlined.

Thanks for clearing up your points for me as the way they were stated did not bring your opinion across very well. I don't agree with all your opinions but the cleaning one is a good one. When you choose to shoot corrosive all the time the nessesary cleaning afterward can get tiresome, that's why I have a good supply of smokeless and also am setup for reloading as well.

People are getting frustrated with you because you don't actually listen to anyone else and reconsider your position, while posting in a thread started by someone looking for factual information. EVERYONE has had the wrong way of looking at something and drawn incorrect conclusions because of it at some point, but most people suck it up and concede they were incorrect when shown evidence to the contrary. I used to think CCW was a terrible idea until I moved to Arizona and realized all my prior concerns were nonsense.

When you decide something must be true and then either ignore evidence to the contrary, or change the specific point you are arguing over and over until the people you are arguing with give up, it doesn't make you correct. It means you are operating on blind faith. If that's how you make decisions then by all means continue to do so, but please don't mislead others on this forum looking for objective data. There aren't a lot of questions based around physics and chemistry that can be correctly answered with a "it seems like..." approach.

I never fire MFS in my firearms. Some of it uses a copper plated steel jacket on the bullet I hear.

Maybe you should rely on real facts instead of something your heard. First off, taking a look at MFS website, you would have noticed that jacket material listed for every single cartridge they manufacture is CuZn10 (#C22000) which is commercial bronze guilding material. There is NO STEEL in it, 90% COPPER, remainder ZINC.

As per being described as a self proclaimed engineer, I'm totally speechless. Needless to say that you do not have a clue of what you just meant and how insulting it can be.

FYI, The MFS sold commonly in Canada is actually Russian made by Barnaul. It is not made at the MFS plant in Sirok, Hungary. Last I checked they were bimetal jackets.

Threads like this are not about opinion, they're about information. A lot of people can't tell the difference between their opinions, and actual information.

So thankfully there is a fair amount of actual information in this thread. The reason I am hard on guys like Tachead is that some new guy is going to search "steel cased ammo" before firing it in his gun, find this thread, and not know enough to be able to tell who knows the subject and who doesn't.

It's pure luck that we got a couple of guys with massive credentials to step up and explain the reality of the situation, so hopefully anybody who stumbles across this thread down the road will not get confused by the argument.

Well said - that sums it. We all come hear looking for objective data of highest caliber. Learned a lot - am now comfortable with this ammo, thanks guys.
