Having the same problem. Have had one for a while with about 3000 rounds though it. Works flawlessly. Bought a new with the same problems as you. Haven't had time to look at it and figure it out. My quick asssament is the seams in the plastic have burrs on the inside that won't let the follower move freely. Will look into it more when I have time. You could probably exchange it for a new one.

Empty the magazine and try pushing the follower down a half inch or so with a popsicle stick (or something else soft enough that it won't damage the plastic follower) and then pull the stick out. If you can do that a dozen times and have the follower pop back up then the problem isn't the follower or the plastic part of the mag. Try loading one or two empy casings and do the popsicle trick again several times. On mine, I had to use a small, fine file to remove a tiny bit of material right where the rim of the cartridge first encounters the steel.

Good luck!

.................had the same issue with three steel lips i bought after buying a new ruger 10/22 none of the mags worked. I sold the rifle. I bought the rifle so i could blaze away with a 25 round capacity. Had no intentions of buying 200 dollars worth of friggin mags till one of them worked. Steel lips are junk.

I had to file a little plastic away on mine. It was too tight to let the cartridges come up.

It was a pain in the ass, 4 beer job to do 3 mags. We shouldn't have to do this with a new product.

But now they work great and I have three 25rd mags that blaze the cheap .22

I bought two mags one worked flawlessly the other had this problem
Took it back to Al simmons me and the salesman went through 3 or 4 new ones to find one that didn't have this problem ,never even a hiccup since
One of the reasons I like Al's is help like this
But you're right shouldn't have to deal with this crap for new product --but blazing away 25 semi -auto is bliss

god FARKING DAMMIT !!!!

just bought 4 new steel lips magazines from wholesale and after reading this thread decided to check them and see if they are having the same problem.

all 4 of them exibit the same problem, seems like the rim gets stuck and won;t let the next round pop up..... MAN I am pissed.

anybody thinks they can fix them I will trade the 4 steel lips mags and a BC mag loader in exchange for 5 plastic lip magazines...... we each pay our own shipping.

I have one hot lips plastic mag and it loads up so much easier then the steel lips... so what if they wear out after 5-10 years

Ok I got my mags working, first sprayed them with silicone lubricant, which slicked them up nicely..... and then I am going to canadian tire to get some jewelers files and am going to do that trick next

ok now I have filed them, takes about 20 minutes per magazine, the critical area I found was the back of the mag where the red line indicates in the other thread, seem when they machined them they left it rounded out instead of cleaning it up and making it straight. that and rounding out the shelf itself seems to have worked.

once finished I can hand cycle 25 rounds thru them no problem.

I wonder if wholesale (and other vendors) are just restocking the mags that customers returned as defective? A hundred percent failure rate on four mags is pretty bad.

all but one of the packages was factory sealed...... one package was taped shut..... I personally think it is a problem with butler creeks investment castings of the lips and them not finishing them off properly.
