Steel pin cleaning media question

Is anyone using the steel pin brass cleaning media in a RCBS hexagon drum? I was wondering if it would be hard on the drum being plastic.
 
My tumbler has rubber-lined drums. No worries there. Not sure about plastic. Probably would last a long time, and any wear would be noticeable before it went far enough to destroy the drum.
 
Yes, you will notice the damage right away. I can see it etching away slowly though, maybe make it uneven. Spring for a thumler tumbler Model B. It will change your life
 
Caution about steel media: It works very well in the Thumblers, but be careful that you don't have pins stuck across the casing mouths or stuck inside the primers!
It takes only a few minutes more to inspect the cases, but well worth it.
Today I found 3 pins stuck into the primers in a batch of 9mm brass.
 
I bought my pins from Rooky on the EE. Haven't had any stuck in the case mouth, but a few stuck in flash holes though. A rare earth super magnet and extreme visual inspection is a must to ensure no pins are stuck in the cases.
 
If your rare earth magnet is big enough,when you put your brass in the towel to tumble dry add the magnet. If there are any stray pin's it'll find them. If there's pin's in primer pocket's the brass will want to stick to the magnet.
 
Thumler isn't the only option. I have a Lortone and am very happy with it. Got it from "Canadian Treasure Seekers".
 
I just use a cheapie Harbor Freight dual tumbler. They usually go on sale for $39. every so often.

I grab a few cases by hand and swoosh them around the water and usually the extra pins fall out. I double check when I dry them just in case. I got the high speed Thumlers
From Cdn Treasure Seekers as well.
 
I never understood people's fascination with pins. I use round 0.025" sand-blasting stainless media. Cleans perfectly, no gouging, and no stuck pins. Available from any industrial supplier.
