Steel shot and Outlaw (12" 12guage double) - does it mix?

I saw one post, a while back, saying the outlaw shotguns were not rated for steel shot, and another post saying someone blew up their barrel 6 inches down with bird shot (I assume steel).

I've got some 1 1/16th ounce high velocity #2 steel birdshot, and I'm wondering if I should use it or not.

Thanks.

You sort of answered your own question. I'm no norinco hater but those guns are pretty notorious for being a small step above total crap.

There's debate on whether it has a choke or not.

Some people say it is cylinder bore, while others say it has a choke.

Someone confirm for me.

muzzle/bore size
0.720 inches horizontally (x)
0.735 inches vertically (y)

I've shot everything out of mine , lead shot , steel shot , buck shot and slugs (all 2 3/4 of course) without issue but maybe I wont in future pending more info from this thread. Mine functions awesome as well so far.

Not at present. It's not really the most suitable shotgun to be doing so with.

Yes. Shooting steel shot may render it round, but at the same time, rendering it round may result in the weld weakening or failing.

A barrel being .015" out of round tells a great deal about the quality of the gun, or in this case , the lack of quality.

I wouldn't have bought it at full price.

I paid $200 and have no regrets.

When I first got it, I couldn't get the shells to extract, but after a bit of filing I got that working right and have been happy since.

Also, those with legal knowledge of shotguns and length, please input your ideas in this thread:

While we await more feedback on the issue of steel shot and Outlaw reliability.

I have no use for a shotgun with barrels that are .015" out of round, so I would not purchase one at any price.

Alright, sounds good. I will shoot the steel shot, but not now, as I don't want to mar the finish of the barrel (thus causing it be more humidity sensitive).

As for slugs... this minor difference would not affect soft lead slugs significantly.

If anyone has calipers and an outlaw, check if yours is perfectly round or not. It could be intentional, a fluke, or an unintended product of the manufacturing process. It's not easy to drill an off-round hole. It is likely a result of compression.

For the $10 bucks you will save yourself go and buy a box of #2 lead shot... Then you don't even have to risk it. Seems stupid IMO.
