I'm a member of a small BC club that has been under legal attack for a number of years.
Some of you no doubt know of the club I'm referring to and may have contributed financially or otherwise. Your help is in large part why we are still around and fighting so thank you all for your support.

Our on again, off again trap shooting would appear to be off again unless we can come up with a source for steel shotshells. An internet search would suggest that many clubs in the US have been shooting steel shot for a number of years and the ammunition companies have responded accordingly and yet, steel shot target loads seem unavailable in Canada.

Are any of you shooting steel target loads and if so do you have a source for buying in bulk.
Thanks for any input.

Challenger, Winchester, Federal and Remington all produce steel 12 gauge trap loads for sure and I have seen Winchester 20, 28 and .410 steel at various times. Any better gun store should be able to bring it in if they don't have any in stock.
I've shot a lot of the Challenger it seems to break clays well and I kill a few ruffed grouse and woodcock with it as well as use it for swatting crippled waterfowl.

I did a search for steel target ammunition and found that all the manufacturers, I checked, have steel target loads. Challenger, being a Canadian manufacturer, might be your easiest supplier. Hummason's in Ancaster, Ontario are a distributor for Challenger and Winchester. I suggest that you contact Brian at Hummason's (905-648-3430) and see what he can get you. I believe that he can arrange direct shipment of skids of shells to a business address.

Going forward, you may want to investigate reloading. There is a club in Illinois called the Naperville Sportsman’s Club. They are shooting steel there. A fellow that goes by the handle "spitter" on Trapshooters.com could be a very valuable source of information for you.

Another company that may be worth approaching is Score. When I was working at wholesale sports we had "exclusive" 2 3/4" steel hunting loads (1300 FPS) we sold for like 12$ a box, not as cheap as some target loads but in that price point. Now with Wholesale gone, I'm sure they are selling that stuff all over the place and probably would be willing to deal direct. Worth a shot anyways, although the smallest they made is #4 steel. I think I know which club you are referring too and its been nice to hear the sounds of shotguns off in the distance this summer. I need to be popping in more!
