Look on the choke tubes, some makes will say on them if they are safe with steel. Otherwise, not many here can help you if you don't mention what kind of choke tubes they are.
If your gun has fixed chokes then they will not be safe if they are Full but maybe if the are more open, again no one can help you if you don't tell us what kind of shotgun it is.
I believe the op is referring to the Mossberg C-Lect choke system which was similar to the Poly-Choke. Personally given the way they are manufactured where the end of the barrel is machined thinner and cut in a flower petal type configuration that expands and contracts against the inner side of the outer housing as the dial is turned to select the choke constriction I would personally be concerned one or more of the petals would weaken as the shot and wad pass through the muzzle. Steel is not forgiving and has poor flow characteristics hence why it is encased fully in a thick heavy shotcup.
If your shotgun is not of design to accept steel shot then the answer is no if you chose to use steel shot in a shotgun that was not designed to accommodate steel shot then you are willing to accept the negative results that may occur because you have done it for years is not the correct answer
I have a 45 gal drum in the shop full of all makes of bbl's that have failed because of steel dhog usage
Thanks for all your response! This is a Poly-choke! but will not be using steel in it! He said if was a Cutts make sure you don't use steel in it! Thanks! Who knows?
Your Poly Choke will handle steel shot up to #2 set at MOD with no issues. How do I know? How about 30 years of shooting them for waterfowl on a regular basis.
