steel shot

at 15$ a box that's 15 geese for 15$. I don't see the need to reload, so I don't, really.
Would cost me a few hundreds for a press, components, plus the hassle, to save like 10$ a year?
Would get my money back after 20 years or something? uh.

not worth the chance of blowing up your gun is it? steel tends to pressure spike and detonate. Not worth it, and not worth trying to find steel wads, unless you get bismuth cheap.

i go through alot of rounds of goose shot a year(i hunt near every day of the season)and if you load batchs of 1000 rounds for $400 thats 4 flats for 400 and labour and thats including$140 worth of hulls that you can reload in the next batch.the 2nd batch will cost 260 on different items.

i use-
1000 cheddite primers
1000 RIO 3'' huls
1000 downrange wads(waa12f114)
30lbs. of steel shot
3.5lbs. of higginson longshot

it totals 400 and you dont even use the primers till you do the next batch(they come primed)

and for those who cant count 1000/25=40 $400/40=$10

so yes i pay $10 a box

the average flat of goose loads costs 300 x 4=1200 1200-400=800

i save 800 dollars a year

I pay $140.00 for a flat of goose loads and usually shoot about 6 flats a year. What kind of velocity do you get with Longshot. When I was reloading I used Alliant STEEL powder, it was the only powder that would produce high velocities.

LeBarons sells flats of Winchester and Remington basic steel loads in 2-3/4", 3", and 3-1/2" for about $140. When they're in stock that is...

I use the Xpert 3.5 inch shells going 1550fps and 1&3/8 oz of #2's... Drops ducks AND geese effectively! And, can't beat the price at ~ 140$ plus tax.

Cheers

Early in the season I've always seen them stacked in huge piles in the stores around Toronto.

And the Winchester Xpert 3" are $101 or $107 for the 1-1/4oz, a flat. 1-1/16 oz at 1625fps, 1-1/8 oz at 1550fps and 1-1/4 oz at 1400fps, BB, 2, 3 or 4

i can get anywhere from 1200-1300

For steel shot, thats pretty low velocity, it looses speed faster then lead due to density and wont be much effective when it just hits and bounces off and doesn't kill the bird, Ill stick with the 1550fps made that fast for a reason, unless your bird is 10 ft from you.

"...buy steel shot online..." Buy components locally. Shipping costs will negate any savings found on-line. Your local shop can order anything you want.
"...a flat..." Geezuz, tomato plants come in flats. Ammo comes in cases. snicker.
