Kind of want.

The steel "pumpkin ball" would be intetesting to play around with.

Why?

If nothing else, because lead slugs might become prohibitively expensive in the future and alternatives might be worth looking at?

I bet there's something out there thats dirt cheap, fits in a shotcup and flies straight. Someone somewhere will finger it out and bring it to the internet people. Then we can turn birdshot into brennekes for cheap.

Some kind of mass produced ball bearing perhaps?

The main problem of course with "pumpkin balls" is that they can be wildly inaccurate after 50 yards or so, and I don't imagine that they retain velocity very well, especially when they weight only 250 grains like the steel version above.

I was thinking a cylindrical object like a roller bearing but in a shape that will fly straight like a slug. I remember a company in Greece I think offered a solid brass or bronze slug with attached wad like a machined version of a Brenneke. But they were stupid expensive and their only payment option was to wire them money. Something like a WFN hollow based slug but already mass produced and available in bulk for good prices would fit the bill so long as it will drop into most shot cups.

I wonder if it'd be best if some company offered a fully encapsulated birdshot load for cheap practice instead of having to mess around with opening up, reloading and recrimping target loads?

DDupleks, another company that's focused on steel slugs, offers a shot filled frangible plastic slug load intended for use on steel targets.

Not sure what they cost, but maybe somebody could make a cheaper version?

Cheap off the shelf ammo would be the best all around. No messing around in the garage and not having to pay high prices for a slug load just to practice with would be nice. Make them available everywhere for cheap with no supply disruption and you'd have a home run. Like CanAms round ball load but on shelves in every gun store from Vancouver to Halifax. It wouldn't matter that you couldn't hunt with it cause its just a target load. Maybe we could find a way to capture and compress Trudeau and Wynne's BS into a solid material that could be loaded and fired out of a shotgun? Its heavy with lies and blows apart when it strikes something solid. Not sure about environmental impact or if the sale of stupid is even legal but its an open pit with tons of raw material with no current forseeable use.

Taofledermaus just put up a new video on youtube the other day with a steel dual dumbell design slug. I the slow motion footage is just amazing. I love that channel.

Can ammo had zink slugs that seemed to do the job .
Fosshi had some a while a go loaded with 50 bmg projectiles. ( yes the spelling not right !!)
Have seen ( think it was) 7 or 9 5,56 /223 projectiles fit in a loaded 12 gauge shell in place of the shot load .
Steel wool/wax slugs , marbles, lego figures, spark plugs, nickels , washers.finishing nails, batteries and glow sticks . If it drops down the barrel in theory it could be shot back out !

1 ball bearing(chromed) of the right size/ caliber
with that you can go through 6mm of mild steel at 25 yards, I tested it.
Be careful with the ricochets though.

Dimes make a close range wall of metal. Fire only in a cylinder bore 12 ga. $1.20 worth of dimes is about 1 1/8 oz.
Cut hull shells are as cheap as you can get. I like the idea of a fully capsulated shot cup though. I might try that with buck shot
