Steps to getting license?

You need to take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Hunter Education Course.
When you take these two courses they will tell you everything you need to know.
If you ever want to hunt with a firearm you will need to get your firearms licence.
How do you know that your pellet rifle will "down" small game?

Depends on where you are. In Ontario, you have to pay the Outdoors Card tax to be able to buy the licence. You're required to take the Hunter's Safety course and the Firearms Safety course to be allowed to pay the tax.
Your pellet gun is considered to be a firearm under the Ontario hunting regs. Even if it isn't under the Firearms Act/Criminal Code.
If you're not in Ontario, you'll have to talk to your MNR or whatever it's called where you are. Get a copy of your local hunting regs too.

Just to Clarify... it is called the "Fish and Game Act" and a pellet gun is only considered a firearm if it is used for hunting. You do not need a firearms licence when you hunt with a pellet gun or a crossbow or other archery, but you need a hunting license! And you do not NEED an H1A1 licence to hunt... a hunting licence without a firearm accreditation can be obtained by taking the Stand Alone hunting course in Ontario. This is for archers, falconers and others who so not wish to hunt with firearms.

I have taken many pests on my uncles farm.. It will do the trick to 30 yards easily. Most small game can be stalked to under 30 yards, this rig will get er' done, and its fairly quiet!

Falconers?? Never thought of them. Have to say I am not seeing much point to them taking a hunter safety course though.

Ya but Sormbringer has a habit of being too levelheaded. I am sure you will get a lot more interesting answers if this thread stays open.
