Sterling Arms International R18 Mk3 Part 1 Review - Specifications and Initial Impressions

That would require the AR to become non-restricted, in which case I would agree.

If the AR remains restricted, the non-restricted R18 will sell like hotcakes. In comparison to the other rifle, the R18 is like 1/3 the price and so will wildly outsell it.
The maccabee defense SLR was 1600 dollars out the door when it came out. full 100% AR parts compatibility and non restricted with a non restricted FRT.

The Macabee receiver set featured mediocre machining with a dubious take-down design and horrible "anodizing". In short (in my personal view), the Macabee Defence was a low-cost POS that I would be embarassed to own. But hey, that's just me. Compare an R18 Mk3 to a Macabee and there is literally no comparison in terms of the overall design, machining quality, and fit and finish. All for just $200 more than the Macabee, and still well under $2K.

realistically speaking who is going to choose a 1800 dollar rifle with less parts compatibility over a 1000 dollar AR? or a non restricted alternative at the same pricepoint of the R18 MK3? I bought a lot of expensive gucci rifles after the May 2020 OIC some of which I will keep but the others are being sold the second the OIC is lifted.
Even in the States, the Jakl has proven there is a market for a non-military design piston gun that is more expensive then a default AR. Even if the AR-15 is de-restricted with a long enough barrel, some people will choose to get folding stock piston gun for a truck/tractor/ATV gun, and some will get one just to be different. To each his/her/their own!

The AR quickly becomes boring and any new ATRS MS will cost twice what the R19 does.
If you think AR's are boring, you aren't doing them right. The MS receiver sets cost twice the price of the R18.

ATRS and Stag 10 were both non restricted and were absolutely cherry. I miss them both dearly and if the prices are even just a few hundred more,
LOL, "just a few hundred more?" The rifle in question cost THREE TIMES as much.

I have 12 different AR15s and variants, ranging from a 7.5" AR in .300 Blk to a belt-fed Fightlite MCR, with everything from an originial AR10 to an LWRCI M6IC, with Colt Canada and HK in between. All are fully accessorized with optics, lights, lasers and various other useful accessories. To say that I am thoroughhly bored with AR15s (and their piston variants) would be a vast understatement....

Now, when you start talking ACR, MCX, X95, Bren 2, B+T APC, FS200, Valmet, AUG, Galil ARM & SAR, G3, FAL, AR180, FNC, SIG 550, G36, M7, or any interesting NEW design, I start to get interested, The R18 Mk2 therefore intrigues me as a new, hybrid combination of several modern designs.

That's it, that's my main motivation WRT small arms collecting - the key past, current and future designs. I am not particularly interested in a single design such as the AR and its variants, regardless of its success. Just about everything that there is to develop or enhance with the AR15 design envelope has already been considered or done. As a result, ARs have become somewhat boring to me. Obviously YMMV.....

I paid $2700 for my MS18A3 and $2176 for my complete stag 10 in 2019. Both after tax in ON. While the prices will be higher now, I don't think it will be too extreme. But yeah just a few hundred more man, they weren't as expensive as the EE made it seem.

As stated in the R9 "Sneak Peek" video, there are parts for close to 600 R18 Mk3 rifles in Calgary just waiting on the word to launch once the 5 Dec 24 OIC is lifted. It won't take long from "flash" to "bang" to have R18s on dealer racks....
