This could only happen to me :runaway:

Just went to scope my new Stevens 200 7mm Mag and I couldnt get the base screws started - Savage drilled the holes but didnt tap them!

So if you have get a Stevens 200 with a S/N in the G3767xx range - check it first before you do any stock mods etc.

I will contact Savage on Monday and see what they will do for me...
 
Had a similar issue as well, but with a Marlin rimfire. The driled it ####-eyed so I couldn't use any bases. Luckily the receiver was grooved so I went with a dovetail mount.
 
If they're already drilled, it's probably less hassle to just run a tap into them than bother with any sort of warantee replacement. It's only a 30 second job
 
6/48 and they aren't usualy on the shelf. They are fragile and brake very easily. You need two, one to start the thread and a bottoming tap to cut threads to the bottom of the hole. Don't do it if you aren't used to cutting threads cuz you'll void warrenty and you are verryyyyyy likely to break the tap. Take it back and they'll fix it

Yup, 6-48 is normal gunsmith tap size for them....take her back......
 
i asked the dealer to double check to make sure mine was tapped before i laid the $$ on the table
My luck would be about the same as yours ( plain bad !) LOL
