Stevens 200 improvements????

I like the Stevens 200 because for me, they are a great project gun. I need something to play with and improve on. I've posted bedding and forend stiffening procedures. And I will say that after some alterations, which I enjoy doing, my range reports are outstanding. I am fortunate enough to have my very own shooting range with gongs out to 350 yds. A couple of fellows were shooting a 700 SPS and a Weatherby Vanguard. Both rifles cost a lot more than my .223 Stevens, both were totally embarassed by the 200's performance. :D

so a cheap rifle that shoot well will be worth nothing down the road?
I guess they are just like the cheap 788's remingtom cranked out like bubble gum a few years back.:yingyang:

They shoot great I own one in 7-08, I like Savage rifles a lot, my CGN handle should be a friggin' clue for ya. My point is, don't pump too much cash into them and expect it back at resale.

I am definetly going to buy the stevens 200 just for coyotes as hunting coyote I would not be making a carreer out of it but it sounds by the readings on here that it's a good gun but what would the cheapest all around proper scope be, to mount on it. I would like to shoot at least about 150 yards with it........?

^thats the cheapest id ever go. Bushnell Legend, 2-7x32mm, around $145 at SIR or LeBaron. suprisingly clear, good FOV and has held up a long time on a mini-14 (a rifle known as a scope-killer) with no recoil buffer and a lot of punishment and knocking around in the trunk of my car and the bush. the Legend series is the top of the Bushnell 'standard' scope line, below the 3200/4200 elites. they have a lifetime warranty as well, but unlike the elites you have to pay a $10 handling fee. the click adjustments are slightly mushier than the elites, but they are still precise and perfectly adequate for people who intend to just sight the rifle in and leave it.

but only if you are really strapped for cash... otherwise it is a better idea to scrape together another $100 and get something like a Bushnell 3200 Elite or Burris Fullfield II.

so to sum up, if i had $80-100 to spend on a scope? i wouldnt buy one, id wait till i had the money for something better.
$140? i wouldnt hesitate to buy the Legend.
more than that? i would scrape it together for a Burris Fullfield II, Bushnell Elite, or perhaps the lower priced Leupolds although i cant say for sure because ive never owned a Leupold Rifleman, only VX-IIIs and FX-IIs.

or check out the EE - you might find a deal on something that is ordinarily out of your price range, although be careful when buying glass that you are buying from a reputable seller.
