Anybody got one of these? Range reports??

Also, any body know anywhere in Canada they are in stock in 7mm-08 & what the price is?

7mm-08

I think that why not bought his from sir at 329.99 He brought them in to show me not a bad little rifle he said it shot 1 1/4 out of the box with some hand loading it should do well under? He also pick up a 300 win mag and the same thing it shoots well.

Got my third Stevens 200 three weeks ago. It is in 7mm-08 and as River Rat has said it is a solid sub-minute rifle with no load development at all. Have tried only three loads, 120 Barnes X, 140 partitions and 160 Sierras.

Nine shots total through the barrel, and all three loads shot around an inch. Thay all shoot under an inch with handloads. :)

Bought the 300 and the 223 from SIR and the 7mm-08 from Wholesale Sports.

How do you fellers feel about the 7mm-08...? I'm beginning to think that my next deer/moose/coyote rifle should be a BLR in this calibre. I've read so many good things about it.

Jeff/1911.

7mm-08 Rem is a great cartridge, it will basically do anything the 270, 280, or 30-06 will.

If you look at results downrange (especially in the field) and compare it to the 7mm Rem Mag, you'll probably wonder why bother burning double the powder? :D

With todays modern super bullets (like X's), a guy can do an awful lot of killin' with a 140 gr. @ 2800 fps.

Excellent choice. The 7-08 replicates the old 7 x 57 Mauser, except in a short action. I've used the 7 x 57 to kill everything from moose to coyotes (with black bear, elk, mulie and whitetails in between).

If you use a 140 grain Nosler Partition, it's capable of cleanly killing all of the game that you're likely to run into in North America (without punishing your shoulder or giving you a flinch). Great caliber, great cartridge.

I have one and I am thoroughly impressed. It would be sweet if you get a hinge plate for stevens 200. (I know, I know, its an economy rifle....) It has taken one deer so far. many more to come!

Thanks guys! Originally, I was looking for a BLR in .308 but I'm strongly considering the 7mm-08 now. Although, the .358 Winchester version has me very interested as well...been doing quite a bit of reading on the .358 Win. It sounds wonderful too. :)

If you plan on doing more shooting than hunting, then you'll get far more use out of the 7-08. There is a very limited selection of bullet weights for the .358 (mostly 250's and 200's) although it can be a formidable big game hunting cartridge this side of 250-300 yards.

Bullet selection for the 7mm is very broad. Your flexibility with that caliber is huge. I've used 120's for very low recoil shooting (including coyotes and paper targets to 300 yards), you can take most big game with 140's and, if you really want to shoot heavy-for-caliber bullets, you've got 160's. Lower recoil generally translates into more fun at the range (and more rounds fired). I typically shoot a few hundred 7mm bullets a year, but well under two hundred .35's.

Thanks A-zone. I was just thinking...

I own and really enjoy shooting my Browning A-Bolt Micro Medallion in .308 a whole lot. This has been my main hunting rifle for a dozen years or so. I've taken whitetails, moose and coyotes aplenty with it. It seems like an extension of me almost, and I am good with it through familiarity and the confidence gained from repeated success and lots of time on the range through load development sessions and practice.

I load for all my guns, and have settled on a 165 grain Nosler Partition load for this rifle that shoots very well in it at top velocity. The point is - I don't "need" another rifle...but what does need have to do with it anyway, right? :)

So, for my "other" big game rifle I think the 7-08 in a lightweight BLR sounds about perfect. You are correct, I will definitely enjoy shooting a relatively more gentle rifle at the range, and that equates to more comfort, confidence, and better shot placement when the time comes to kill game. Until recently, I owned an pre 81' BLR in .243 Win that I loved. It was a great shooter, and I decided I should sell it so as to buy one in .308...but I think one in 7-08 would make a wonderful complementary pair with my A-Bolt in .308.

I will be introducing my kids to hunting soon, and as they become young big game hunters they will likely get a lot of use out of a good 7-08. Most of my recent hunting has been for whitetails and coyotes w/ the "occasional" moose...sounds about perfect doesn't it? Wouldn't one of these be beautifully matched with a Leupold 3-9 compact scope? ;)

Thanks a lot for your counsel, and the benefit of your experience - I really appreciate it.

Best wishes, Jeff/1911.

Sounds like an excellent combination for a young shooter.

Of course, when Dad wants to get a "thumper", there's always the .358 Win.;) (That, or a .35 Whelen :) )

Sounds just right to me boys! Jeff.

Hi Jeff - You'll be good to go with a 7mm-08... I've been a .308 fan for years & still have a couple but I also discovered the 7mm about 10 years ago & it's been a love affair ever since. You won't be disappointed. I've had a couple BLR's in .308 but one in 7mm-08 would be a great little rifle!

Howsabout the BLR in .284 Winchester?

Fellow 7-08 & BLR enthusiasts,

I was looking through an old Browning catalog I have here and saw the listing for the BLR 81 in .284 Winchester...this seems that it would be "even more" of the greatness of the 7mm-08. Isn't this true?

It seems that once the owner had obtained enough brass for reloading through the purchase of rather expensive factory fodder then you'd be "home free" as far as using the great selection of 7mm bullets available to load for the rifle. I guess the only thing is that there would obviously be more recoil with this cartridge compared to the 7-08, and perhaps more loss (or less gain) from the relatively short barrel used on these rifles. I think they came with 20" tubes.

Your thoughts?
