Stevens 200 in 7mm-08

there is a small difference between the two cartridges on paper, but in a 2.8" magazine rifle, loaded to the same pressure, they will perform so close to one another that any difference downrange in the field would be damn hard to find.

a 284 Win is capable of about 100 fps more than a 7-08

As much as I think it's an interesting cartridge, I wouldn't go out of my way to try and find one. The .284 replicates the .280 Remington, but more like an early version of a "short magnum" cartridge. It was a great idea that never gained acceptance in the shooting mainstream (and it's had fourty years to get established).

Sure, the .284 has a bit more punch than the 7-08, but probably not enough to justify starting out with an obsolescent cartridge. The 7-08 remains your best bet for a young person's hunting caliber.
 
I was thinking of buying a Steven's 200 in 7mm08 (for yotes) and a BLR in 7 mm Rem mag. (for an occasional moose).

After reading this thread, I think that my next rifle will be a BLR in 7mm08 :D

I've been trying to get some feed back on this caliber for a while and the information has been scarce. You gotta love CGN ! :)

Oh, by the way, the only other feedback I got for the 7mm08 was from a guy who's wife shot a Cariboo in Northern Qc at 250 yrds.

My kind of gal :)
