Here is my stevens 200 that i just finished painting as i seen some of the ones on this board and it gave me the idea to try and paint mine. Sorry about the picture as my digi just died and i used my phone camera.

I used Krylon Fusion Camo paint (Tan and OD) and it seems to do the trick.

Tell me what you think and post any of your stevens or recently painted guns!

thats tan?
with the camera pics it looks like you painted it smurf blue :)

cool idea with the contrasting checkering colors.
let the Krylon Fusion cure a long time otherwise itll peel off with your fingernail in strips. i was not happy with Fusion on my Savage factory stock - it doesnt bond with the stock material (only bonds with certain vinyls), and i ended up sanding it all down and going with a standard Krylon for better durability. YMMV.

heres my painted factory stock:

looks really nice. Yeah i ended up sanding it down well first, then applied a base coat and once that dried there were a few areas where the paint balled up a bit, so i took some 3m scotchbright and finely went over and repainted and it came out a lot better. did you use the same paint on the bolt? that looks pretty sharp as well. Once my digi battery is charged i'll take some better pics cause they really dont do the gun justice at all.

btw how long did you let the krylon fusion paint cure for? i think on the can it says ~7 days but it seems like its on pretty good as the first base coat i put on sunday and the green only has a coat on from yesterday but nothing really touches where the green is when i reassembled the gun and i probably wont shoot it at least until next week so its really not going to be banged around for a while. thanks for the info!

for a camo pattern like that do you have a template? what kind of preparation is needed to do something like that or any camo pattern as that is something i would like to try next as its starting to become a pretty fun hobby! :)

manbearpig i just notice that savage is almost the same setup that i have in my 300 win mag. I have the 111gcns (wood stock and blued) with a burris fullfield.

no, thats an oversized factory bolt knob from Brownells, costs around $25 and takes 5 min to replace. i hate the tiny stock knurled one on the Savages. since this one is longer, no more pinched fingers against the scope ocular when i raise the bolt, and more leverage.

and i didnt let the Fusion fully cure - i stripped it after about 5 days and completely redid the stock. the checkering was filled with fibreglass and then bedlinered, painted OD with regular Krylon. decided i didnt like the OD so i dusted the entire thing with flat black.

very good. as long as your order is not too large/bulky, and it does not exceed $50 US, they will ship it in a small packet which generally costs you $2-3 tops.

855-000-269 is the product number. including shipping it should be no more than $26, and since they are small envelope-like packets that they send your odds are good that customs will not touch it. in fact i have never paid duties on any Brownells package that they shipped me UNLESS it was over $50 and ended up being shipped air-mail, which seems to come under more scrutiny (and also costs 5x as much).

since shipping is so cheap, if you are ordering several items it often pays to break them up into smaller packages so you get their cheap shipping rate.

installation takes 2 min, just pop off the allen bolt on the end of the bolt and the old one slides right off. make sure you torque it back on well, i used a longer handled socket wrench and bit rather than an allen key for better leverage on the allen bolt.

Thanks for all the information. You guys are one of the best forums for any firearm info that i have ever found and the fact that its a canadian site makes it that much better. Here is a better pic of my rifle. Enjoy! :)

It's fun to change up a "stock" rifle and add your own personal touch to the gun. This is my most recent stock paint job on my Ruger MKII 350Rem Mag. The beige is from the Krylon camo line and the black is a rubberized paint that I found in a hardware store. I like the feel of the 'rubber' over the plastic. Just something different.

I was tired of looking at my Stevens 200 .223 the way it was, so I made a few modifications to it. I added a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5x14x40 S.F. with mil-dot reticle, a Rifle Basix Sav-1 trigger set at 1.5 lbs.,and an oversized bolt handle from Brownells. That oversized bolt handle makes a world of difference on the Stevens action.
