I got 2 stevens 200 one 22-250 and one 223, I would like to get an after market bolt for them, I could only find some in the US and they won't ship North. Where in this great country could I find that ?

I started modifying the original stock added 2 steel rod in the fore end and put insulating foam with lead ball from 12 gauge 00, they are way to lite stock. On the 22-250 I mounted a ken farrel 20 moa base a bushnell 4 - 16 x 40 scope, did a nice camo paint job on the stock, I will use it for coyote hunting for now till I decide if I want to change caliber with the next barrel.

The 223 is all apart and waiting for my final decision on what I will do to it. I was thinking a shilen select match in a 1:9 twist from Mystic, the trigger I am not sure yet witch one would be best for my needs, I would like about 2.75 to 3.5 lbs of pull. I want to use it for target shooting and hunting thats why I prefer a safe pull. I would like a boyds laminated stock with detachable mags. One more question there, were to get detach mag setup for stevens 200?

Did anyone in here built a 338 lapua on a stevens action ? Would it be strong enought?
Because I was thinking of a Stevens 30-06 and modify it to 338 lapua for my next project.
Any ideas out there?

Contact Mystic Precision, Jerry offers a number of barrel options for your 200's. If that doesn't work for you, contact juanvaldez here, Sean runs North Shore Barrels (I think it is) and also offers a number of options for barrels.

The Shilen select match barrels are pretty good. I think 8 twist would give you a bit more flexability incase you ever want to push the 80 grainers.

I have 3 of SSS bolt handles. I think they were under $40 dollars when I got mine. You can't get them shipped anymore but its a good comparison/reason not to pay $100 for a factory bolt handle imho.

As for triggers I have timney, and SSS triggers. They are comparable in feel and use to me. The SSS has the edge and the Timney was poor value for money at the time I bought it. I would now go Rifle Basix Sav 2 if I was replacing another savage trigger.

EDIT: If you get a stock inletted for savage detach mag, I know Sean at Northshore barrels can get you the savage bottom metal and mags.

Easy enough to fit a knob to a Savage handle. The handle can be set up in a lathe much more easily than a complete bolt.

Reminds me of one of the three times I've been burned here at CGN. Laddie wanted an oversized handle. We agreed that I would install one on a spare handle I had, he would send his handle in exchange along with payment. Maggot would up with both handles and kept the money.

Savage makes .338LM rifles on 110 actions. I have no idea what differences there are between the LM action and a standard long action.

Only real diff is the meat behind the bottom action lug. Savage increased this for the Lapua action. When they did "destructive testing" the first thing to happen was the bottom lug would bend down. The extended length bolt head seems like a good idea but it actually wasn't a factor. 8-40 scope base screws are used.

Yes. I consulted some well known firearm industry engineers and custom rifle manufacturers as well as Fred Moreo of SSS beforehand. My math determined it was borderline so I contated Joe at Savage and he put me in touch with Chris B, their head engineer. I wanted to know their heat treat and material specs due to the psi possibly applied to the action and bolt lugs. They didn't have a clue, I had to explain how their action handles hi pressure and the numbers involving a typical 308 versus the .338 Lapua . At the end of the conversation I was quite dissapointed with their knowledge and they told me "Savage will never build a 338 Lapua on the 110 action". Funny thing is, I am not the first to do it nor will I be the last. I just happen to be the first to tell Savage how to do it.

If you search my posts you'll find it somewhere, back in 2009.

I have a standard long action in 338 Edge. Only fired 100 or so rd. but seems alright so far. Only devcon bedded into a Choate stock, no brake. Mark

358, the edge has no where near the bolt thrust as a 338 Lapua yet comes VERY close to performance. Lapua 338 Lapua brass is fantastic though.

tiriag, I'm not building any more on regular long actions. Simple answer is a .338 Lapua based on Rem 700 or Savage 110 actions are not idiot proof, factory made or not. Also, I would not build a .338 Lapua on a rem 700 before a Savage. The Savage has a slight strength edge over the rem 700 when building a Lapua, ie more lug surface area after truing. I'm not worried about set back or even the lower lug bending down. If someone does something stupid these rifles may not handle it well.

I built a 338 Edge on a Savage long action. Had to change the bolt head to a magnum bolt head. Performance wise it's a slight Increase over thee 338LM. I'm getting 2750 fps out of a 30" barrel with a 300 Gr SMK.

I have Savage BA bolt handles instock (almost out) and factory "ball" types in SS and CM.

We can also install any aftermarket bolt knob on your factory handle. Some EGW styles and there are plenty others to choose on the market.

I am also able to get the Factory 338LM bolt heads for the LA.

Lots of new stuff, not enough time to post.

Jerry
