Had several 200's. They are good for the price, but in 300 win, they are too light and the recoil pad will kill you. Its a puck.
Buy a used win/rem and don;t look back. Or a new Marlin XL7, (no .300 though)...What else along the lines of a cheaper but just as good rifle?

ive been looking through the EE for quite some time now.
Whats wrong with the Ruger .30-06??
Honestly, if I wanted a new rifle, but only had $300 to spend on it, I'd wait till I had more $$...
If I was looking at the caliber, I would look at the Vanguard for 500. It comes in at 7 1/2 pounds instead of 6 1/2. Better quality rifle than the stevens. After you put a 50 dollar pad on the stevens, the difference would only be 150 bucks.
Tikka's too light for a 300 win mag. You could look at some of the other Savages, but just make sure they are not light weight. You cold look at the Remington SPS, but I have had both and think the Vanguards are better.
Go to wholesale.com or cabelas.ca and see what they have.
And how do you know i have only $300 to spend on a new rifle?

I don't. But that's why most people look at the Stevens 200.
Our local shop had a NIB Stevens 200 in .300 Win Mag scoped up for hunting season that just sold.
Weatherby has now caught my eye.....
Im thinking about selling one toy to get another toy.
Ive been looking at the Stevens model 200 in 300win mag.
Anyone care to comment on the Stevens 200?
Well, the best deal goin' here is the Stainless Howa Lightning for $539. Same barreled action as the vanguard, but has a classic style stock instead of the funky Weatherby one...
