Hope I put this in the right forum but if not sorry. I want to build myself a nice hunting rifle in 6.5x55 Swede. The only thing I can find locally is the Tikka T3 and I'm not a huge fan. I also would like to learn how to build a custom rifle and was thinking this would be a good way to start and learn.
I want to build a descent rig with out breaking the bank and was wondering what you guys thought about using a Stevens 200 as a donor action. I can pick up a gently used rifle in 270 Win for about $200. To the action I would pick up a new barrell(still doing research but have been looking at Kreiger) a new stock, i like a thumbhole so want to go that route, and a new trigger like a Rifle Basix. What do you think, good idea? After I get the parts I will decide if I will attempt to put it together(depending how much reading and comfortable i am with doing it) or send it to a gunsmith.
