They are still a deal @ 4-425

They certainly are! I have bought five of them in different calibers in the past three years, and one of them shot inch and a half groups. The rest all shot better. :D

The 223 and the 300 Win Mag both shoot under an inch!

Takes less than an hour to prep the stocks, another hour to paint with Krylon Fusion, and you're good!

$400 I think I'd go with a good used rifle instead, but only because I'd rather a good old gun with wood. A stevens like most firearms can have trigger work, and the cheapo plastic stock fixed up for next to nothing, and the stevens shoots from what everyone says. So for the right guy on a budget, it's still great @ $400.

Why Not that stock looks ####ing awesome

I have had a Stevens .223 for a few years now and paid around $300 - good deal ! It is my main 'yote rifle. It is lightweight, very handy with it's 22" barrel, has been easy to fix up (sanding and duracoat, trigger tuned) and it's 1-9" twist is just right. It also shoots as well as anything I have with it's pet load - well under 1/2 MOA with my 55 VMax over Benchmark. No complaints from me, but one is prolly enough for , especially at anything near $400.

Considering a hundred bucks more buys you a Weatherby Vanguard, I'd pass on the Stevens. They were a steal at $300 and a deal at $400, but at $450 I think there are better choices for only slightly more money.

Just curious as to what a used one would bring on EE?
Never could see the point of paying big dollars for any rifle that you couldnt sell a week later even at half the price you paid.

The $300 price point is what made you look past the crusty trigger, and flimsy grey stock. If they want $400+ for one now, they had better reflect upon the fit and finish aspect of this rifle...economy or not. I wouldn't buy another one for that amount.

We've still got a few at $349

For $349 it is an excellent deal. I would grab one of Clay's 30-06's at that price, if I already did not have an XL7 in that caliber. there is something to be said about a no frill rifle that shoots 1" groupings right out of the box and sales for $349. Pretty, they are not. shoot, they will.
