I have 2 of them. The 22-250 I picked up for $299 from SIR in November and a 25-06 that I got at the Kamloops gun show. The 25-06 I haven't shot yet because I now have a line on a inexpensive 111FNS with accutrigger so the Stevens may end up on the EE soon. The 22-250 has been a great gun and worth every penny but at $440 I would take a closer look at the Marlin XL-7 , though it is limited in the number of calibers available. For the true value of the Stevens you have compare them to what is available in the price range. The Remington 770 I wouldn't give a tinkers d@mn for and the Mossberg ATR is just not built strong enough. The Marlin seems to be the exception to the rule, although I haven't looked at one other than pictures so I can't really comment. There are still a few deals out there for SPS's and T3's but once the current stock is gone a $400 Stevens will seem like a real deal. The Vangaurd is little bit better but they have heavy triggers as well, but at least you can get them in stainless for a reasonable price. I imagine the price on them hasn't gone up as much because they're made in Japan. Bottom line, the Stevens is a good rifle with an ugly stock and a heavy trigger and compared to the majority of what's out there in the price range I still think they are a good deal.

Is $359.00 a decent price. I need a new, cheap fairly accurate rifle for moose and this seems to fit the criteria?

Archie, 359 was the cheapest I could find a 223 stevens 200. I believe one of the sponsors on here had them a little cheaper in larger calibres. I can't remember where I saw them though.

Edit: Oh I'm a loser. I just read the previous page. Sako alberta has them for $349

Stevens 200

Even with the ugly stock and finicky magazine, there's nothing better at the price range.

I'd like to get a couple more to go with my .243.... one in .223 and another in 7mm-08....

NAA.

..Just picked up a 200 in 7MM Rem Mag. Just had to, it was 309.00. All my other Stevens are short actions, with 22" barrels. The 7MM is of course the long action, with the 24" tube. It still balances well, and I can't wait to get it out. It's going to be awhile.....I'm heading out of town on business for a week so no range for me :( The shop I got it from told me their '09 Savage stock order is months overdue......their not sure they will see any Savage/Stevens rifles this year!
mylesrom, if you can find a Vanguard for that price, better jump on it.......the '09 restock price is going to be 699.00-729.00, depending where you are.....

At wholesale sports they're not $440.

I believe they're listed at $369. Which, although it's a cheap price, in my position where I need everything(literally) I'd much rather just go with the vanguard starter package.

The Stevens 200 now is avalible with a scope, and camo package. Savage sujested retail price of $499

I too did not like the plastic stock, but one call to my stock suplier and I now have a nice lam. stock on it, limb saver pad. the 25-06 (if I do my job) shoots 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. Yes they have gone up in price, with the exchange rate what rifle wont and has not gone up (besides last years stock). For a guy on a tight buget you cant beat the Stevens. For the guy with no budget go see the guy's at Dakota and have your rifle built.

I have bought a few just for the action. $400+ is too much as I am am getting close to the price of the Savage action in SS with accutrigger. Still, I bet those are going up too, so it is all relative.

I still voted yes. To get anything much better than the S200 you are looking at $700+.
