Stevens 305 & Savage Mk.2 FV

Hi guys,

Found a great deal locally on a Savage Mk.2 FV .22lr and a Stevens 305 .22mag. Both are almost brand new. Come as a package deal. Still on the fence about it. Just wondering what people think of these two.

No one can give me any opinions on either of these rifles? I gotta make up my mind on these two real soon,so any advice is appreciated.
 
Both offer good value, IMO. I'm personally not a big fan of 22mag, but the rifles themselves are sound. But I wouldn't buy them unless you have a plan to use them yourself (unless they are each priced $50 or more under market value).

What else... many people dislike those plastic stocks because they have such a drastic drop at the comb. Makes it problematic to use with a scope (irons are fine, though).
 
The Mark II FV would be my choice if you don't have a .22 now. I've read spotty things about the 300's accuracy (especially considering the price) and I personally don't believe .22WMR is an inherently accurate round to begin with. Close-range hunting shots on small/med. size game might be about the only scenario that gun would shine in, in my opinion. The plastic stocks are cheap but serviceable, you can upgrade down the line if you choose.
 
Wel I think I'll go with both of em. Im also not that crazy about .22 mag and the cost of ammo, but the price of this gun is really, really good. If I dont like it, I can always easily get my money back and just keep the Mk.2. The Mk.2 FV is really the one Im after here. I have the option of adding a Bushnell 3-9x40 trophy for an extra 75 bucks to the package, so I might go with that too.
 
I would go with the fv. I always wanted a 22wmr and now that I have one I wouldnt buy another one. The hmr is far better for accuracy. I would also look at finding a 17hm2 that little round kicks butt.

No question the Savage Mk 2 FV is a good shooter, however, I find the stock too low to get a good cheek weld when scoped so I prefer the laminated wood stock version.
 
I have the trapper(short barrel) version of the 305. Good rifle, you can get 10rd magazines for it. Killed a couple foxes & skunks with it. Big fan of the .22wmr
