Does anyone know the difference in the models of the stevens 311. Or a good reference for this information, I know there were A's, H's, R's and probably several others. I'm sure they refer to grades as well as other things. I'd really like a full listing of the differences and would be willing to buy a book if I just knew what book would have that information.

Thanks.

the differences are mainly style, alittle bit and cosmetic, maybe a change in stock materials. from a parts assembly and disassembly standpoint they are vitrtually all the same. there are some parts unique to the 311c series f and the 311c seriesH,311E series F,311E series F,311E series H, plus a few others.the parts difference is mainly in firing pins, hammers and cocking levers etc. there is a forend assembly differnce between the 311 and the 5100, which are otherwise virtually the same gun.

i redid a stevens 5100 that was built around 1941-44 and it had a tenite buttstock and forend, the idea was i guess ,was that there wasn't any wood to spare during the war. the 5100 has the same parts as the 311 for the most part bt not completely.
