Stevens 311...release lever doesn't catch when opened

I picked up a cheap (but cosmetically excellent) 20 ga 311, expecting it would probably need a bit of TLC. All seems good except, when opened, the release lever doesn't stay locked to the right...it snaps back to the middle and it has to be manually pushed back to the right before the action can be closed.

I haven't had much of a chance to look into it much further (it arrived at lunch and I had to head back to work), but a bit of googling didn't seem to turn up anything. Nearest similar issue I can find was here (different shotgun though)

Judging by how stiff everything else is, maybe a good cleaning and lube will fix things up.

I'll investigate a bit further and snap some pics when I get home tonight.

I just worked on a buddys 311 12ga that was doing the same thing. I took the but pad off then the stock. If you look from the back of the reciever with the stock removed you can see the spring that pushes the block up in place. The spring and pin was built up with crud and was stoping the block from raising fully when the action was open. I picked most of it out with a dentle pick and gave it a light coating of frog lube with a q-tip and she was good to go. PM me for picks.
