Just got one of these from a felliw cgn'er. After many a google I havent found much info on them. Any one use one? Whats a good round to use in a 30-30 bolt?

Got to admit, at first I was thinking a 30-30, I will probably never use it, but its nice and light and feels good when i shoulder it, do it will become my deer truck gun. Got a 270 for the long shots, not sure I would need it, my last 2 feet were undet 30 yards.
Anyway, any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Stevens 325 B 30-30 bolt. With 125 Sierra Spitzers and RL7 it shoots around 1 MOA!.
With 160 Grain Hornady flex tips and LVR it shoots fairly well and the bullet is designed to open up at low velocities and still hang together. With 150 grain Nosler partitions and LVR it shoots 2MOA at 2400fps.

I added a new firing spring and a post front sight. Sometimes I still get an occasional failure to fire with a too light firing pin strike. Feeding is flawless.
It's ugly and makes a good canoe gun though I have to correct the failures to fire.....might look at the firing pin next.

If you handload, these are a great rifle as you can load pointed bullets in them. I've always heard these are a very accurate rifle, and have considered purchasing one several times.

In terms of factory ammunition, I've never had any problems with the Remington 150gr Core-Locts in my lever gun, and I can quickly fire a magazine's worth into a group I can cover with my hand a 100yards. Another load to look at may be the Hornady Leverevloution ammo.

Personally, I'd be getting myself a set of dies and start loading up some spitzer bullets in them. Just make sure to keep them well marked and separated from any .30-30 you have for any tubular magazine rifles. Wouldn't want to have an "oops"
