Stevens 512 Youth

A friend dragged a Stevens 512 youth 20 gauge over a couple days ago, thinking something like that might be good for my daughter.

Anyway, I opened,closed and twisted it a few times and nothing fell off. It didn't even feel too bad.

Is it just wishful thinking that a functional O/U can be had for $600, or are they just another cheap POS to avoid?
