Some time ago, when they reintroduced the Stevens''favourite''-there was some information posted on another clone -very high quality, made in Oregon I believe-but not in business, possably because they were ahead of their time-the market was prepared to pay for a high quality 22.I've seen pictures of it-but never actually seen one.

Hi
The gun you are talking about is a Varner favourite.I am in the process of importing one from the States at this time. They are made in Georgia.I bought mine off of the Guns America sight but saw on rimfire central that the manufacturer has some one 100 rifles ready to be shipped.I m planning on
putting a spare 22 mag barrel on mine sometime in the future.

yes-thats the one!The reviews at the time claimed they were a very well made and nicely shooting 22-better finished than the new savage favourite.I don't know how many were made though-they don;t come up very often-are they in production again?-the website I got on Google showed Oak Harbor-not Georgia-are they being made under the same name?

Yes they are made under the same name by the original manufacturer. They are not a high production piece so only a few are produced at a time. They
are made of better materials and finish than the originals and the Savage knock off which is junk compared to them. Also it is built exactly like the originals unlike the savage which differs internally and doesn t have a tang.About the only difference from the originals is they use a target weight
McGowen barrel and they are very accurate.

The nice thing about a 22 is its fun to shoot-and very economical. When I was a kid we had friends in Maple Creek ,Saskatchewan, and a brick of 22 shells and a single shot open sighted Cooey kept me occupied all day.is there any up to date information on the company-all I can find is what was written around 1989
Some guys like the tricked out semi-automatic's-but something like that beautifully finished single shot varner really appeals to me-each to his own.

I m using Questar (they have an ad on here). They do all the paperwork involved and they have an FFl dealer stateside. When you buy your gun they send to Questars FFl in the states then when the paperwork is done they ship it to questar and they register it and ship it to you.I ve already imported a Shiloh Sharps through them. They charge around $300 to import a gun plus you would have to pay the tax and shipping when they send it to you

so-you can't just go through your local gun shop and have them order it for you-or is it too much hassle for them to be bothered with?[what gets me is how the beurocrats have made it almost impossable to do any cross border shipping -even for a single shot 22 for pity's sake]

nope there are bureaucrats on each side of the border. The americans have to ship to an FFL and a export application has to be sent to BATF and then when it is granted it can be sent across the border after the canadain import
permit is attained.Process takes about 2 months.
