anybody own one of these-and how do they shoot?I have to admit-I like the look of them but haven't actually had on in my hands to evaluate finish, trigger and how smooth they are.etc

I have an original favorite that was in 25 rim fire that I rebarrelled to .22 lr. I absolutely adore it. I had a good look at a new favorite at wholesale sports, and I was rather dissapointed with the gun.I thought it was poorly executed, especially the cocking lever. It's some sort of fugly casting, out of proportion, and poorly finished. I wouldn't waste my money on it. Thought I may be a little biased because I have an original.

Sharps guy.

Yes,I've heard that before-but wasn't there another company producing a replica of the original that was very finely built?Seems to me it isn't in production anymore though.

That finer made one was made by a company called "Varner" if I remember correctly. I remember seeing one about 5 years ago at that place next to Ellwood Epps, Ab Hominem I believe was the name of the collector's place. Not sure if they are still up and running. At the time they wanted $350 for it and it was in excellent shape. A really nice heavier duty production of the Favorite. The new stuff really looks like junk. Even the repro's Savage made in the early 70's looks better than the new stuff. Only thing going for it is it comes in neat calibers like 17 HMR and 22 Mag. If you buy one - get sick of it and then sell it to me at a greatly reduced rate. The fit and finish certainly don't justify the price tag on the new ones. Thanks for letting me ramble - Peter H.

I had the opportunity to shoot a friends in 22lr recently. As far as accuracy his was quite good. I shot at 50 yards and my first group was approx 3" maybe a little less. My second group was only about 1 3/4" wide but 5" tall, mostly due to fading light conditions. Both them groups were 10 shots. Thats probably about as well as I can do with iron sights on the type of target I was shooting at so I'd say all the accuracy one would expect is there. However i didn't find it nearly as pleasant to shoot as I thought it would be. The lever for loading was probably best defined as choppy, maybe even springy, not the most pleasant experience. I never noticed anything wrong with the fit and finish but I wasn't really evaluating it as such. Trigger was fairly heavy.

All said it was accurate, if you don't think my groups indicate it as accurate please remember I didn't have great light conditions, too late in the evening for using iron sights. However it wasn't as pleasant of an experience as I was expecting on the whole. No comment on comparison to originals, i've never handled an original.
