My tikka in 30-06 will do anything several of your stevens will do and better! Heres my 8 shot group 100 yards.

Looks like a good one alright. I shot one in 270 that was nice and accurate as well. I also shot one that had trouble doing better than MOA even with handloads.

All that matters is that we are both happy with our rifles. Wouldn't it suck if there was only one kind to choose from?

This has been an excellent discussion. I think I am just going to have to get one and trick it out. I'm with the school of thought that says " better to have several good guns than one great gun " By the sound of the conversations everyone seems to aggree that the rifles are easily capable of MOA and that is all I want. The gun will be for hunting. The only real negative is that it is the same colour as the rem model that shall not me spoken of ( 355 X 2 ):D

I think it will exceed your expectations. :)

I tried every type of factory ammo I could get my hands on with my .223, and only found one that didn't do MOA. The cartridges were visibly different OAL's so it wasn't the rifle's fault. This load shot about 1.1" at 100 yards. Most do about .75" and some varmint loads do better.

I have only tried a couple of bullet/powder combos with handloads, and so far my best group was .391" at 100 yards.

It hasn't been bedded yet either. ;)

I apologize for how that posted,I just wanted to show one can get fantastic groups out of a cheap rifle.I have a savage long range varminter in 25-06 as well and It does not shoot any better than my stevens.

how do you figure it's not as reliable as a $3000 rifle? Have you ever had one not go boom? I doubt it. That just tells me you have far more expendable income than I do. And for that I'm glad for you. If I had the extra cash I too may think different, but alas I do not. Therefore, I have to make smart decisions. :p

gitrdun, I think we have found another happy stevens owner:dancingbanana:

Nice shooting machinist!

Powder Burner, I looked at the pics in your signature. Very nice looking stock. Which Boyds is it?

Any info on cost, what kind of fitting it needed etc would be appreciated. I'm considering rewarding one of mine with an upgrade.

I think that's because HE'S NOT an armchair hunter. ;) Although I've done bedding jobs on Stevens 200, I actually don't own one. I need to get a .223. Nice to see you back powder.

I've never hunted armchairs, but I've seen a few with very nice pelts.

Actually now that I think about it, I did shoot a coyote at 200 yards while sitting on the edge of an old recliner on my covered deck. I guess that makes me an armchair hunter.

A truly accomplished armchair hunter would have had the recliner up though. :D
