Anyone familiar with this one? An acquaintance of mine has offered me this pistol, a single shot 22lr, break-open Stevens model 10. It has been in his family for over 80 years. He still has old ATT's with it in his dad's name. Most of the blue has been worn off from years of holster wear as his dad carried it for his work as a forest surveyor and trapper. Aside from the worn blue, it functions well and seems to be all original. I've searched the internet for a value, but got a very wide range of prices.

Anyone have some input on a fair price I could offer for this one?

Cute little thing. I can't help you with price. I think it's one of those things with two distinct buyers: Collectors; either of Savage/Stevens stuff or someone into vintage target shooting equipment, and Curios; people who would buy it because it's weird/cool/unique etc, but the price has to be right.

I picked one up about a year and a half ago. I paid $150 for it. It was on consignment over at Wanstalls. And frankly if it had been $200 I'd have handed it back. It's a pretty basic and almost crude sort of action. But I have to admit that it shoots well enough and has a decent but not great trigger. All in all rather heavy, clunky and pretty well far from elegant.

Since yours is the only other one I've seen outside of a VERY FEW images that came up on Google I would say that there isn't a whole lot of them out there. I suspect they didn't do well on the market even for the time since there were a fair number of great revolvers and even some pretty decent semi auto guns in competition with them for sales. So there may be some collectable value over and above the basic design.

Yours looks to be in roughly the same cosmetic condition as mine. So since I tend to be rather chea..... er... FRUGAL when it comes to this sort of gun you may be able to get $200 from someone that has to have it. But outside of that I suspect you'd need to be very much in the right place to meet just the right buyer.

Thanks a lot for the info BCRider. According to the FRT, they made 7000 of these pistols between 1919 and 1933. I guess it was reliable enough to be carried in the bush for three decades. According to the owner, it shot a lot of hare and grouse and dispatched many a trapped furbearer.

There's little to go wrong on it. So I'm not surprised that it was wonderfully reliable for that previous owner. And I know that I need to get mine fixed and shoot it again. The rear sight blade on mine is sort of floating around and doesn't stay in one spot for more than a couple of shots.

I also liked the fact that it's something unique. And if that 7000 figure is the TOTAL production and not just the imports into Canada then I'd say we do have something that might catch the eye of the right collector. I may even make $50 on the deal.... :d

I am looking for a cheap single shot 22 pistol for teaching purposes and for my granddaughter in a couple of years. If any of you fellows want to part with one ?
