ive got one in 223, use it to hunt the wolf and coyote population to a minimal. im using hand rolled 52gr and 0 at 300. mil dot scope and 3.25 lbs of lead in the stock, the scope and rings were double the price of the gun! great gun for the$.
The .223 shoots 1.5" using cheap winchester 55gr. I suppose it would shoot better but I am a medeocre shot and use only a front rest most of the time. Haven't shot the .06 yet but I am going to the range Sunday. Trying out some 180gr Winchester soft points. Yes they are painted using Krylon Black. My only gripe with them was the colour of the stock, it was butt ugly.
lannard, I did fill the stock of my Stevens 200 in 30-06 with 2lbs of copper BBs recently as well. Additional weight makes the rifle more balanced, and it reduce the recoil a bit. However, I am not sure how much weight is optimum. Some say 8-9lbs for a hunting rifle before scope is about right...What do you think about that?
Anyone selling them as a package with a scope?
They need to rethink their websiteLebaron's has them listed.
Does anyone have a Stevens in .30-06 that can recommend a good starting load. I have 3 cans of Varget from my .308 left. Not really picky about bullet size 150, 165, 180 or 200 grn are all good. Speer, Nosler and Sierra are the most readily available bullets in my area.
