Stevens model 200

Don't take it the wrong way....

The recoil pad is stiff, the stock is 'el cheapo, and the trigger is on the heavy side....

But yet, I wouldn't hesitate for one second to buy another. It shoots great and you can't beat the price.

Although the Stevens Model 200 appears to be good value for the money, I like the looks of my Mossberg 100ATR better. However, it's only available in 270WIN or 30-06 from S.I.R. mailorder for $300 right now.

Just another option that proves some deals are for real.

How is it shooting now? Have the groups tightend up at all? (not that they were unacceptable to begin with.)

OK guys...I realize now that my personal opinion about the appearance of the Stevens 200 is apparently incorrect - and I can live with that. :p

Jeff/1911.

I picked up a 200 when they first arrived in Canada in .223. Put on a $100.00 Tasco 6 x 24 mildot scope and my wife who has not shot in a few years shot a 1 min group from the bench at 100m. I, from a bipod shot a 5 shot one hole group at 100m. Seems to shoot ok. Ammo was federal 55 grn bulk pack .223.

I'd really like to know what sort of groups people are getting with the Stevens ? Anyone have one in .308 ? Are they capable of shooting MOA at 100 yards ?

I have a 30-06 Stevens that is my truck gun, so I throw it in behind the seat.

I had no toruble finding aload for it that shot 3 Accubonds into a ragged hole group at 100 yards.

I still wouldn't take it on a hutning trip, though!:p :D

I have three of them, my buddy bought three of them for his sons; two 223s, one 7mm-o8, one 7mm Rem Mag, two 300 Win mag.

They all shoot under an inch, all of them, so I don't think you have to worry about one in 308 Win doing the same. :)

I could care less what other people think...That's not why I wouldn't take a Stevens hunting..

It's jsut that i have soem far nicer, and far more functional, and most importanly -far more reliable rifles.:)

Accuracy is very nice to have, but it is nothte single most important thing in a hunitng rilfe.

Please expand upon the "functional" and "reliable" problems that you have encountered with these rifles? I would be interested in your experiences.

There isn't anythign relaly WRONG wiht them.

But I have experienced a few feeding issues, including failyure to pick up a new cartridge.

And the magazine is blind, so if you have a jam (and I have) then you can't pop the bottom plate off, dump the offending cartridges, and reload.

My triggers are adjusted as good as I can, and they are still somewhat heavy and creepy compared to my *good* triggers..Etc etc. I coudl go on, but you ge the idea.

The Stevens are good guns for the price, and they wouldn't be a bad choice for hunting close to home, but I am not going to take a Stevens on a fly in, boat in, horse back in, remote hunting trip, when I have a couple of other, ultra reliable, well tuned rifles instead.;)

So "tune up" the Stevens to improve its reliability. It is no different in that respect than most other factory hunting rifles. Just about all of the Reminton/Winchester/Ruger/BRno/ hunting rifles that I have owned have required some ajustment. I agree that you get what you pay for and sometimes the cheaper rifles require a little more TLC before they are 100% reliable. My Stevens 200 in .223 only required a slight trigger adjustment and has never given any feeding issues. My 200 in 7mm-08 did require a little work on the mag feeding lips though.

But, on the other hand would you only take one rifle with you in the above mentioned scenarios? I wouldn't. ;)

Anybody know where I could buy one in Ontario close to Toronto? Lebarons doesn't have it on their webpage and I don't know about bass pro. Would this be a ok beginner rifle or should I spend $250 more for a Remington 700? I would be getting a 30-06. I really want a tikka but at $699 plus tax, it's expensive

Wow that kinda far. I drove to Kenora before and it took about 20 hours of straigh driving.

I found them online at SIR and Wholesale $334.99 at SIR

$319 in the Catalouge for Wholesale Sports but it's $359.99 on their website.

Does anybody know if they charge for shipping?

Yes they charge for shipping, and they are $319. Not sure what the shipping for one rifle would be but 2 was $37, probably close to $35 :D
