I just picked up a Stevens Model 335 12 gauge sxs. All the wood is still in great shape for its age and the metal is not too shabby either. Based on what I have read this one was made in the late 1920's. It closes nice and tight and the bores are clean.

Only problem is that the spring in the forend is not doing it's job anymore and the forend keeps wanting to pop off. The previous owner had it taped to the barrel so that he could shoot it but I would rather repair it. Problem is where do i find a spring. A search on the internet says that Numrich's is sold out (14A 570990 Forend Spring Spring Coil, New Style)and the part doesn't seem to cross reference to any other Stevens of the same age. I don't know of many other places but will try WGP in Edmonton tomorrow. Where else?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I would go and find a spring. Measure the OD/ID, Wire gauge and length and you should be able to find something comparable. Industrial hardware stores such as Fastenal, Acklands Grainger and others have a large variety of springs available. The spring you are replacing is not an integral part critical to function, therefore any spring that fits and works will do the job.
