Any body out there familiar with these actions? I like them and would love to own one. Any one seen one , or own one. The closest I've come to one is a .25 rimfire favorite that I rebarreled to .22 rimfire. It's my pet rifle, and I shoot the hell out of it.I love it, but a model 44 would be even better. Any body got a opinion, or comments?

I have owned both actions and strongly prefer the 44 1/2. The 44 1/2 is a true falling block while the 44 is just a large frame favourite and not nearly as strong. I semi kick myself that I traded the 44 1/2 but it had to be registered and the other fellow had a heavily engraved Greener 20 guage :>) :>(

cheers Doug

I have a very nice 44 in .22lr - a rather late one made toward end of production in the 30s. It has abright white bore and is a great shooter. A much larger, heavier rifle than a Favorite. The 44 1/2 is a much more sophisticated action than a 44. True dropping block rather than a swinging block. Much stronger, and capable of accepting more powerful cartridges than a 44. The 44 is basically just a large Favorite.

I have a 44 Stevens, faine rifle, but not nearly as strong as the 44 1/2 as was stated.
I have a barrel that was chambered in 218 Bee for it as well as the original 25/20, but shoot the Bee at minimum loads.
I plan to get it rebored to either 25 or 32/2 to shoot black out of it.

Hey, do you guys know of a good Canadian source for vernier tang sights, wind guage front sights, Lyman hooded target sights etc.

Sharps guy.
If you are going to be serious in the BPCR game you will be paying approx 500.00 Canadian for the rear tang sight and 175.00 for the front globe and spirit level ....parts unkown here in Winnipeg makes them and they are of the highest quality out to 600yds the midrange soule sight will be fine after that the long range is needed... I will see if i can find the phone number email me at clbrough@mts.net
