Hello,

I recently took apart my stevens model 77 16 ga pump action shotgun, and now I can't put it back together. I have looked on the internet and I cannot find any manual for this gun. Does anyone have any pictures or schematics for reassembling this gun. I really don't want to pay to put it back together.

Thanks,
Dan

Ya, I have that one, still can't figure it out. There is one piece that I took out and I can't figure out where it goes. The gun goes back together nicely without that piece, but the pump stays locked. I've gone over it at least 20 times disassembling and reassembling and still can't get it. Worst case, does anyone know roughly how much a gunsmith would charge to put it back together(I only paid 100 bucks for the gun), so I don't want to sink too much into it.

Thanks,

Dan

The part you are talking about is actually a recoil sensor of sorts IIRC. Put it back in, and once all assembled, give the butt a sharp rap on the floor, and I bet you'll find it opens normally. If the shotgun doesn't sense recoil, it will not allow the action to open.......took me a while to figurte that one out quite a few years ago while fixing one for a fellow....hope this helps you....good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

I second MadTrapper's idea. There's a significant fault in these shotguns, and it centers on part #28, that little "shepherd's hook". Unless it's exactly right - tension, location, phase of the moon, etc. - the gun locks up exactly as you've described.

On older guns, this steel part wears on the alloy trigger guard and kills the gun dead. The only solution is either a replacement trigger guard, a steel bushing replacement, or deal the gun for parts. This isn't where yours is at yet, but in time, it's where she's going. The $100 you paid is about right, but I wouldn't count on it for bear-in-the-tent situations.

We have one - it serves as our pump-gun for the CFSC tests. Works fine for that.

Good luck, mate.

The leftover part is # 26, can't figure out where it goes. Maybe a new trigger assembly is the way to go, the spring doesn't seem to work right now thinking about it. When i press the pump release, it sometimes would work once and then it jams. The hooked part seems to get caught under the firing assembly. Thats # 28 and it gets caught some where on #45.
