So, I'm hunting donor actions, the question I'm posing is this, savage chambers some rifles in 300 RUM, would a 300 win mag stevens with a new tube take on the ultra? Is there a difference in the shank/nut size? And how is the mag well for length? Saving a couple hundred bucks is nice, but not if I'm just asking for trouble.

There is alot of differences in making a RUM fit a WM action. The mag box is significantly longer and not readily available. Then the action would need to be milled to fit.

Trying to make a Stevens work for the RUM is not worth the time. Get a HOWA or Rem action and save alot of grief.

All fat case magnums are now built using the large shank but the WM on the standard shank.

The RUM will always be faster then the WM. you are just burning so much more powder not to be.

However, if you put a WM into a long barrel and the RUM in a short, they will be pretty similar.

Does another 100 to 150fps matter? only you can decide.

A WM with a 30" pipe would be a superb LR combo.
