Hi all i bought a stevens model 70 visible loader it came with a home made butt stock, it is quite well done but i think it might be cedar or some other soft wood
Does anyone know if a favorite or crack shot stock i would like to get a better stock on there the front pump handle is in good shape but would like the stocks to match
Thanks
Bill

Got a parts gun here for you...even has your name on a Leather Tag on the Buttstock. It does have a crack sadly...but not unworkable IMO

Like the Country song about the Pawnstore and the Guitar..."What took you so long?"

But the factory stocks are not hardwood by a sight...just an FYI

Don't they call it Alderwood? If it is a hardwood... what is Balsa Wood?

Alderwood would be from an Alder tree.

Yeah, Balsa is a "hardwood".

It doesn't have to make sense, sorta like all the rules in the English Language, which are outnumbered by the exceptions!

As for the OP, I'd check out a Favorite for fit. Remember, the outer layers of a walnut tree are pretty near white wood, but it is still Walnut! I can recall an awful lot of advertising that included the term "American Hardwood" in the description of the stock.
