Nobody can accuse me of bragging about the factory two stage trigger that happened to come on my gun until NOW. Here is the story.

I would not say I hated the trigger but I was not really happy with it either. I was getting very used to my slightly modified Accutrigger on my 10FPLE2B and the RifleBasix trigger on my 93R17BVSS. Both of which are tuned down to no creep and around 1lb of pull. The Steyr - smooth through the first stage and then tough to pull and lots of creep into the second.

At the 50 shoot last weekend a father/son team showed up with a new Steyr that was nearly 1000 rifles later in production than mine is according to the serial numbers. They graciously let me try the trigger in their gun and it was alot better than mine. I of course got curious and this weekend I tore the 50 apart. Here is what I found.

Inside there is one lonely little allen head screw that is actually the magic button. It is located in the front of the trigger assembly with the allen head at the top. Without re-assembling the rifle (so I will not swear to all this yet) I am pretty sure the first stage has dropped from 1lb 12oz to 14oz. The length of the trigger pull in the first stage appears to have remained the same. The second stage has dropped to 2lbs 10oz from a whopping 6lbs. My creep is not gone but it is reduced.

Reducing the trigger pull even more is possible if the top of the adjusting screw was sanded down a bit so it does not touch the reciever tube when screwed out. If this screw touches the tube it makes the first part of the trigger pull very loose (likely unsafe) due to the lack of spring resistance. I have the screw in mine backed out to the closest possible point without touching the reciever once it is re-assembled. I am going to try it like this for a while and then go back in to reduce the creep and some polishing work later on, and maybe more adjustment if I feel it would benifit the gun.

Maybe some of the other Steyr owners have beat me to this adjustment screw, if so I guess I missed the information when it came up. I was under the understanding that the trigger was not adjustable on these guns until this week.

Also I have found that some of the assembly screws have rattled a little loose on my gun as I had been firing off nearly 200 rounds through it. Some of these screws are very well hidden and need pretty much a complete disassembly to find them. Some screws were loctited and some were not. The loctited screws have held their torque just fine and most of the others held on too. Just a few needing a tweak. I think I will likely loctite most of the screws on the gun now.

I hope this info might help some of the other Steyr owners.
Happy and safe shooting guys and gals.

Nice to see you have the trigger issue sorted out, should make for better shooting for you, thanks for sharing this useful info.
Now all you need to work on is the scope bite issue LOL

I am pretty sure the scope bite issue was caused by me being too lazy to slide my fat a** over when I changed from the 500m burm to the 600m burm. All healed up and all is well.

There is still some creep in the second stage but it is a fairly simple trigger and a bit of sanding and polishing will clean it up nice.
