Steyr L40/L9 M40/M9

I had an L9A1 a couple of years ago and wrote a detailed post here about it. I liked it OK but I never got used to the trigger so I sold it. I like polymer pistols by Glock, S&W and H&K better.
 
I bought one straight away when they first came out, and also wrote about it Here. Mine was exceedingly accurate with nearly nonexistant recoil, but had the tendency to eject brass into my head. Mags didnt really drop free properly and it had some questionable aesthetics if you care about that kind of thing. Also the mags are, what, $60? With dirt cheap magpul mags for glocks, it gets hard to justify.
 
I had Steyr M9-A1 back in 2005/2006 ...wanted something new and different so gave it a shot. Anyways I HATED IT!! it just want a good gun. Don't bother. Had lots of other polymer guns since stuck with gen4 Glock.
 
I have a M40A1. LOVE it. The trigger needed a fair bit of dryfiring to smooth out. I love the trapezoidal sights; I am faster and more accurate with them than any of my many other pistols.

I also find it does a great job of taming recoil on the .40. So much so that I sold my G22.

I had a L9. I was instantly disappointed when I found it did NOT come with the trapezoidal sights; it had Night Sights installed... I the end I sold it as I found my PPQ or Glock 17 were better options in 9mm.

A little hard to find parts, mags, accessories for, so I might encourage you to consider a Glock, PPQ or VP9 as alternatives.

I had an M9-A1 and really liked its appearance. Has an interesting bulky, sci-fi cyberpunk look to it.

Mine also had brass to face issues, but a Steyr rep mailed me a different extractor and plunger which fixed it. I sold it because holsters, mags, and spare parts are either hard to find or expensive.

I have a Glock Gen4 now and while it's not as nice a shooter, I enjoy being able to detail strip it myself, find parts anywhere and cheaply, and have a wealth of information available for any common problems.
