Steyr M9-A1 .9mm (Opinions needed)

Yeah, I've checked them out, and from reading the posts here it sounds like it's a good looking gun that has given enough people trouble that I'm not so sure about it now. I was hoping for stellar reviews by all. LOL
I have to admit the gun looks good, which is why I was thinking of buying one, I do not currently have a 9mm and need to get something to deal with the two cases of 9mm burning a hole in my closet! I've been shopping around and being very picky as I'm in no rush.

The other one I'm leaning towards and like is the Beretta 90-Two, partly for the modern look and the Beretta reliability. Any thoughts on that one anyone?

Not to be a big know-it-all, but this is the gun that my girlfriend shoots, and I have shot hers enough to get a pretty good impression of what it is like.

The Beretta 92 design is a 100% time-test design. The 90-two basically just updates that. It has the equipment rail, and it has a captured spring guide-rod. The gun is accurate. The sights, grips, all the basics are very solid.

The only things I don't like about it is... I'm not a huge fan of long guns. I find the shorter ones handle better for me in rapid firing... but this is a very individual thing. Some people are the opposite. The Beretta 90-two is a big, full-size type of gun. If you like that, it will be a good match for you.

The other thing that I think is weird is... it de-cocks to the safety position. At least my gf's does. This could be a requirement for some European military contracts (Italy?? What police or miltary have bought these?). I know that when the German Army bought their USP's (P8) one of the changes they wanted was to have it de-#### to the safety position. The normal USP de-cocks to the fire position. For me, I use mostly SIG. I want to de-#### and put it in the holster. If I had a 90-two or a P8, I would probably be de-cocking, then clicking it back on to fire, then holstering. You don't need the DA trigger AND on safe to holster. That is total overkill in my view.

You can see the slide mounted safety/de-cocker in my pics. If the hammer is down, clicking that lever down puts the gun on safety. If the hammer is back, then clicking it down de-cocks the gun and puts it on safety. This means that, unlike a USP, you cannot carry the gun cocked and locked - the safety will always de-#### the gun. On a USP de-#### is down, safety is up like a 1911.

But other than that they are nice guns. Both the SA and DA triggers are very useable on the Beretta. Same as the 92. It's a solid gun.

Obviously you know what it looks like, but here are a few pics anyway:

Well I took the plunge and just recently bought a good used one but don't have it yet. As stated above, it is a gun you really WANT to love. We shall see.

I loved it from the first time I picked one up, and even bought mags for it. (you know, soon as you have some parts, then you might as well buy the gun). Mags were cheap, a couple years ago I picked up a whole bunch of 10 rounders from the US.

It is disappointing to hear that North Sylva is so slow with parts.

Another plus for the Steyr is that the grip is quite small and easy for kids to hold, plus the trigger is a little easier to reach than other guns, plus the short reset. We have a few kids and lots and lots of nieces and nephews.

Range report to follow.

I had spent huge among of time to do research about the Steyr. I like how it look and I like how it feel. Good grip angle. But I am not sure how Steyr want to run their business, even in the State, people have hard time to get parts. The steyrclub forum mention Steyr had stop ship gun to the State base on the fact they will come up a new design with the same flame at 2009. By the time of the new shipment, will be a better design. I am waiting .

Hmmm, new design, hopefully it address some of the weak spots. Then again, the Glock 17 is on version 3.5.

Well, at least I bought mine used and should be able to get my money out of it.

Steyrs--
I have a 9 an a 40, both are very good as for the sights, just focus on the front blade an with a little practise the rear sight will aline.

I had a Steyr for 8 months or so, sold it aftre I handled M&P...that was year and a falf ago. Still have the M&P, so far it has proven to be a more reliable gun and I don't regret selling the Steyr, but it did have some advantages over the M&P.
