Steyr M9A1- Anyone try these pistols?
Any thoughts.......Pros? Cons?
I wanted to try one at Phoenix awhile back but was told that it was out for repairs.
He stated that it wasn't very reliable and that parts were quite hard to get and expensive.
Haven't seen many people talk about these particular brand and model.......just curious is all.

Shot my friends.... Great ergonomics and accurate; almost as nice as the Walther PPQ. Early ones were fraught with problems, and apparently had crappy support from the importer.

Same problem as anything not Glock or M&P: hard to find mags, hard to find holsters, etc.

Easily my favourite handgun. Good trigger, points naturally, awesome grip, neat sights, ridiculously low muzzle flip. Very accurate. The only M9A1s you can get in Canada are older models because they did a one-time special run with extended barrels. The last ones sold out a few years back but you can find previously owned ones unfired or with low round counts on the EE on occasion.

The longer-slide L9A1 has even better accuracy and recoil and a noticeably better trigger, but I had extractor problems with mine. I hear thats fixed now.

My L9-A1 has become the jewel of my tupperware herd, wonderfull pistol, trigger and reset are smooth perfect, this apply also to my M40-AI that is as sweet... JP.

FWIW, my L9-A1 is one of my more accurate shooters. Not sure what the price point is today, but felt it was an absolute steal a couple of years ago. My one complaint that keeps it from being a favourite is the slide lock release. I have to change my grip considerably to not inadvertently ride the release which results in the slide not being locked open after the last round. Others have reported the same issue. Because of this, I'd recommend firing a few rounds through one before committing.

I also shot a friend's, not the "L" model. I really liked the fit in my hand, liked the sights, the balance and the trigger was fine IMO. I shot it rather well. I would like to shoot one side by side with a PPQ and a G19.

My brother shoots the M40 A1, and says it is his favorite without a doubt. Very low bore axis, faster to get back on target due to recoil pushing back rather than flipping the barrel. Great trigger and the trapezoid sites are fantastic once you get used to them, easy to align on target !! They don't tend to advertise much, but they sell everything they bring in !
