Hello All,

Well it's time for the dunce cap. I recieved a wonderful Steyr M-95 today, and the bolt, naturally, was taken out of the gun. I cannot seem to get it back in. I have tried to pull out and rotate the head of the bolt and have almost been able to get the locking lug to line up under the extractor, but it just won't budge. I have read online that this bolt is "the bane of all bolt owners". Can someone suggest what I can do to help this proceedure?

Cheers,
D

Allright, thank you friend. I will be looking into it even more so after today's school. Mmm. Looking forward to it!

Btw. There will be a seperate post later as to different markings. I am having trouble ID'ing the date on the rifle, it looks like someone used a punch to neatly put 5 little punch marks into the barrel right where the date might be. Under the barrel however is a 3 number code not matching anything else, it reads 970. Ideas?

Grasp the retracted bolt in one hand, use your other hand to pull back the cocking piece, and while its pulled back, rotate it counterclockwise. You can pull the striker back and then engage the safety under it, which will prevent it from snapping back in when it completes a full rotation. Give the striker a few revolutions, usually two or three, but dont unscrew it totally. Once you have inscrewed it a couple of turns you will find the spring compression on bolt has deminished. Then rotated the bolt head into place, and insert the bolt into the rifle. Once its in, pull the bolt back to the rearward position, and draw back the striker, and spin it clockwise to recompress the spring. Using this method means you can usually withdraw and reinsert a bolt withing a few minutes with ease.

Dosing, Thank you. My friend and I managed to put the bolt back in, from now on, it stays in for a loooong time :). Look out for my next post about the markings!
