This is a new thread on Steyr SSG 69 rifles because I did not want to hijack ghostie's thread and it is also my response to .45 Barracuda.
Dear .45 Barracuda,
I can see that Badger Arms is selling Steyr Mannlicher SSG 69 P11 rifles and that's fine. I have not checked to see if those rifles are the same as the one I was looking for last year. It seems to me that the rifle that they advertised is the Steyr SSG 69 P11 without sights on the barrel (item # 29.910.3B) - caliber .308 Winchester of course. The rifle that I bought from Steyr Arms (Trussville, Alabama) is the same rifle but with sights (item # 29.900.3B). Almost all people don't care about iron sights on a precision rifle. I do.
No matter ! A Steyr SSG 69 P11 is a Steyr SSG P11.
Now, how the good people at Badger Arms managed to get those rifles is beyond my comprehension. Things were a bit different last year. In early December 2009, after waiting more than one year (four different dealers), I decided to send a lenghty e-mail to the Canadian Steyr importer - no abuse, no insult - asking them how come they were still advertising in the Canadian Access to FIREARMS if they were not able or willing to bring those rifles (SSG 69 P11) into Canada. No answer.
In late December 2009, I got in touch with Mr Scott O'Brien, CEO at Steyr Arms and he was quite surprised to discover that I wasn't able to get the rifle in Canada. So, he told me that he would inform Mr Oliver Bauer, Sales Manager at Steyr in Austria. Nine days later, I received an e-mail from Mr Bauer, stating that he would contact the Canadian Steyr importer about it.
Upshot : on the very same day, I also received another e-mail, this time from the Canadian Steyr importer, offering me to import the rifle I was looking for ...
Too late ! I was already dealing with Mr Scott O'Brien and with the irreplaceable Mr Clayton Smiley (Prophet River Firearms - Importing Services and CGN sponsor). And me, I am a man of my word ! What is said is said !
So, all I had to do to draw the attention of the Canadian Steyr importer was to get in touch with Mr O'Brien in Alabama who wrote to Mr Bauer in Austria who in turn wrote to the Canadian importer ...
Now, that's good customer service ! Don't you think so ?
Finally, I hope that the good people at Badger Arms will sell thousands upon thousands of those most excellent rifles in Canada.
Things were different for me.
