Re the ejection issue, I don't want to overstate this. Some persons on US websites reported a similar issue but the problem is only evident if the bolt is slowly and gently brought back, normal clean bolt operation obviates the issue.

For the TRG owner you are talking about, was he talking about his TRG having the fragile stock?

That's correct - I think it was the part(s) related to the cheekpiece... This was back when I was searching for my first precision rifle (early 2008) and was considering a TRG-22, so I don't recall the details offhand.
I was actually this close -->| |<--- to getting the Sako, but ended up chosing another. You might be able to find the post in question; do a search for "TRG" in posts prior to and including February 2008 (try a subject title search to be more specific).
IMHO, a 3K$ rifle should eject the cartridge properly no matter how slowly you operate the bolt.
Redman - IMHO you are 100% right. I am figuring out a fix but, nevertheless I remain satisfied with the overall ownership experience as I'm getting a better level of accuracy than I was expecting; close to, or better than, 1/4 MOA from a factory rifle is hard to complain about LOL 
I'm surprised it doesn't work right... Isn't it just the type with an extractor hook and a spring loaded plunger (if my terminology is right
)? Those are usually very reliable - that's the style I have and I can say that it's the one thing that never let me down. In the end, that's what factory rifles are all about, no matter how high-end: there's always something that won't be quite be right, it's about what the overall package does for you. That's probably one of the reasons many go custom.
Yea but for 3K not cool (like redman said). Also I mean if you want your brass to last, and you reload... letting it go flying isn't exactly helpful

I owned a TRG 21 which is the older vesion of the 22. Almost identical guns except minor changes to the trigger and stock. I will miss the accuraccy because I have customs that don't shoot that well, so for the price I consider them a bargain. I sold it to a friend that kept bugging me to sell it and figured it was good timing because I had just ordered myself a PGW Coyote in 7wsm. But like I said, I have a strange feeling I will own another one within the next couple of years.
BTW if anyone tells you that you can buy a custom that is directly comparable for less I'll pay for it. By the time you put together top quality components like a custom action, bbl, stock, trigger, magazine kit, gunsmithing... you are hard pressed to come in under the $4000 mark. If you get a used Remington 700 action, pull the stock off another rifle, put a barrel on.... yes you can save some money and do it cheaper, but then you aren't comparing apples to apples.

Those problems weren't the deciding factor actually, but were a point of concern. I wasn't planning on buying 10 rifles - I was looking for the one and I wanted to do it once and do it right, without compromise. It's still my first, one and only.

Don't knock that option too soon. In hindsight, if I had the knowledge I have now, I might have been more on the fence between factory & custom instead of being dead-set on a high-end factory offering. Even though you've been a fan of those two brands, weigh your options carefully and, above all, try before you buy - I went in blindly, but got lucky (mostly). You have to ask yourself: "What exactly am I a fan of?"
Subtle things you'll find out from a "test drive" are:
- Does the trigger really break like glass?
- Does the balance allow you to shoot in the position(s) you want?
- etc.
Good luck. I can tell you that I tried a Steyr hunting rifle in 300 Win. Mag. and was impressed at the accuracy, stock fit and recoil management, so Steyr seems like it makes good rifles. Never tried a Sako.

I would say prohunter and ssg 04 are pretty close together (in terms of style). But there are far more changes between the 04 and the 08 then you would think. Things like forward rails for mounting things like lasers, a versapod rather then a harris bipod (and located in a better area), a butt spike, more movement for cheek piece, the bolt can be depressed, thus making the trigger unoperable, 2 stage trigger (rather then direct), pistol grip, and probably a couple other things I am missing

A tragedy got me into shooting: my good friend's dad got pancreatic cancer which spread to his lungs and killed him in about half a year. His dad was a hunter that had a Savage 99C in .308, two Cooeys and some Italian over & under (all 12 ga). Faced with the prospect of having all that siezed, my friend got a PAL and started shooting, taking me with him during his second trip to the 100m range. I tried the .308 and caught the shooting bug. Got my PAL & first rifle just two months later. He got himself a brand new 10FCP McMillan later that year in the Fall.
There you have it; so, to all you Savage fans, yeah, a Savage got me into shooting
Next week? Cool; even though there's no scope/bipod, post pics! And update as the parts come in (that's what I did).

Yup, it was 3 weeks from taking the exam and the result getting to NB. Then it was a 5 week turnaround between when I submitted my application to when I got my PAL. I then got my rifle right after.

Koshy, I shoot a trg 22, unfortunately can't compare to the ssg 08 as I don't have one nor have I fired one. After hours of research and conversations with real users was sold on TRG. My first trip to the range grouped 1 inch groups with cheap american eagle ball ammo (same as my savage 10fp 20" barrel, folding choate)at 200M. I fullly expect to get better groups with better ammo when I have the time to get used to her. Using a leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 on it and its one gun I will NEVER sell. Ejects fine, easy to adjust the stock to fit me, shot my groups bench shooting with the factory bipod, no rear rest, just my shoulder. Near rail (going to replace) leupold rings, going to replace them also, looking for the sako tactical unimount. If you are looking at getting one do it. you won't be disappointed in anyway, in fact the 308 may be a disservice to the gun as it is known to be soooo accurate. Up it to the 300 win mag if you can swing it. One thing is for sure, they won't be devaluing anytime soon.

I chose NightForce because I have heard good things about it. More then that features such as ZeroStop, they also offer a lifetime warrenty and you can upgrade your scope (within reason), without having to purchase a new one.
Other alternatives I thought a little bit about were: Kahles (another hint), and also Schmidt and Bender.
Is there a reason you would go with something else over a Nightforce? I haven't heard anything bad about NF, have you? Or is there a reason you prefer something else over NF?

Glad to hear you are happy with your TRG, and haven't had any problems with it. Yea those are the great things about Sako and a couple other manufact., they really don't devalue even with thousands of rounds through them
Although I'm sure you don't plan on selling it anytime soon! Cannot wait to hear how you do when you put some match ammo through it I live in Ontario, so shooting over 1,000 metres is not likely And even that won't happen all that often. Keep in touch,
