Steyr SSG 08

Seem to be competitive with the well known's AI for instance. Great comparison on Youtube between the AI AXMC and the SSG M1. The M1 is the only one I would even consider.

The beginning and end for most of the Steyr rifles is "Press fit" barrels. The new M1 is a barrel change system meant to compete against the current AI rifles. The SSG 08 series however looks to be a press fit. The chassis looks ok, but not great. Not liking the bottom piece that looks like a throwback to an AK type folder on the but stock. I think I prefer the Tikka A1 chassis to that one.

The price of them also tends to rule them out. Pretty hard not to just go with an AI instead.

I looked at some second hand SSG 08's on the EE. Ultimately I ruled them out. I ended up with an AI AXMX (3 calibres). The Steyr, wasn't even in the running.

You've sold better rifles, recently..

Cheers for the response, I had a really crappy experience last time with Wolverine supply, and they have 100% seen the last dollar from me, so an AI is out, I’ve had them before and like the multi cal feature, but I now have Desert Tech and they out shoot any AI

My itch for the SSG 08 comes from when I first got into firearms, I loved the Steyrs I had and I love the look of the 08, especially in the factory camo.

Its seams difficult to source them here in canada, but I think IRUNgus carry’s them in the states

Sorry to hear that. It’s been a long time but my Wolverine interactions were all excellent. I think there are a few others that carry AI and use Wolverine as the distributor. Tenda, gobig tactical and Irun guns could probably bring them in? I will say, I’m not a fan of Irunguns after having a less than great interaction with them about 5 years ago or so. But others have been happy.

I’m a big fan of DT as well. Heck I bought my last DT A1 from you! 😂 👍

I get the nostalgia buy. I’ve made a few of those Myself. Let us know when you get the 08. Always interested in reading about cool, not very common firearms.

Stop spreading nonsense about press fit barrels, all the SBS based rifles are threaded into the receiver

I have had the SSG 08A1 in 308. As mentioned they arent pressed fit. I for one like them, they are accurate enough, the price seems a little high these days to me, but still have one. They have good mags, great triggers, good bolts, etc.

You’ve confirmed this? I ask because when I considering buying a SSG 08, I couldn’t confirm it, page 46 of the owners manual with the parts schematic wasn’t able to confirm for the SSG 08-A1. If zi couldn’t confirm it wasn’t press fit, I wasn’t going to even consider it.

The Sauer rifles seem to share some similarities ie bedding block system and even with those rifles the Sauer 100 is threaded into the receiver While the 102 is press fit.

You could very well be right. Would you mind sharing how and from where you obtained the info? From Steyr? Had one done etc? Would be a lot more useful than an A hole post about not spreading misinformation, while providing nothing. Just a thought.

The price is very high. Nice rifle but hard to justify AI pricing here for one. Even AI is hard to justify!! 😬

Have you had yours rebelled or seen the barrel threads during disassembly? Woukd love love to know for sure.

I had a Steyr HS-50 at one time which I can 100% confirm wasn’t press fit 😂. It breaks down for the travel case which requires unscrewing the barrel from the receiver.,

Pretty simple and clear but I’m the ahole, you’re the one wanting to be spoon feed. If your still confused the picture below is of an aluminum receiver scout/elite

Either the barrel is threaded in the extension on the aluminum guns or threaded into the receiver on the steel guns

Do you think this post of yours confirms or refuted the A hole post comment? Spoiler alert.. you proved my point and doubled down!! Good job buddy!

Wasn’t asking about the scout. Was asking about the ssg 08. If you don’t have one just say so. Strange your page 46 shows threads yet the actual page 46 from the Steyr website specifically for the ssg 08 doesn’t show that shading for threads ? Or is that page 46 for the elite?

Page 46 of the actual SSG 08 manual from the Steyr website: https://steyr-arms.us/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/BA-STEYR-SSG-08-A1-EU-03-eng-de-1-BA-6011-1.pdf

You got the correct answer it’s threaded.

Showing a parts pic of the a1 vs standard ssg08 I showed doesn’t change the fact they both have steel receivers and the barrels are threaded into both of them.

The answer to your question has been around for decades, lazy you are.

Umm ya, spoon fed… on an internet gun forum which is here to.. wait for it.. share and provide information… oh lazy… I went another direction. Not particularly interested in buying one. But always interested in information. Lazy.. couldn’t get a definitive answer on other forums and looked up the schematic drawings which didn’t show threads as already posted vs the one you had which does show threads.,,, shared what I found and left it open to the fact I wasn’t positive for the 08.

I appreciate you providing some actual info. However the manner you did so is pretty douchey. Maybe you’re having an off day, or dealing with bigger issues. Whatever it is, I hope it works out. Take care.
