Steyr SSG

Calculas1, you lucky bugger. I've always wanted the PIV with the 16" barrel and that big ol' flash suppressor. I've checked out Steyr's website and they still make the SSG's. Is it possible to get these ordered in by a dealer?

I know a fellow who got 2, wanted to sell it, but He wanted $3000 for one of them, it is brandnew but I don't believe it worth that much, he having a hard time shooting 168BTHP, the best group he got was around 2.5 inchs at 100meter, I rather put that money in good use and buy 3 rem700 PSS...

In order to leave the factory, any Target or Sniping rifle has to shoot within 10cm with 10 rds at 300 meters,so accuracy is definately not a problem with those rifles, the price in canada might be.I have never come across a Steyr SSG that would not put 5 rounds within MOA all the way out to 800 metres. To me they are one of the most reliable performers that come out of the box, without modification and barrellife is 10 times better than those of any US made barrels.12 years with an SSG in the Army made a believer out of me.

+2

If you're in the neighbourhood, I'll let you try mine at our Club match this Saturday. Steyr makes a heck of a rifle that shoots far better than I most days.

The Steyr SSG 04 is a .25 moa rifle with Hirtenberg and RWS match load and already earned its "wings" with the Austrian CT unit "Cobra".As with any Target-Sniper rifles of Steyr you certainly don't have to worry about how it's going to shoot.
As with my personal SSG 69 P and it"s 20" barrel accuracy certainly isn't a problem out to 800m.-Rainer

I know an OLD guy out of Sherwood park, near Edmonton area had one in his locker, and he has been thinking about selling it, it in very good condition, the only one thing that I din't like about the rifles was that it had a plastic mag, and prome to breakage...

Been there, HAD to have it, finally got one (set triggers, green stock), enjoyed it a couple of years, but it never really grew on me. As posted by others, that kind of accuracy is easier to find today than back then (20+ years). I don't regret selling it, but I don't regret having owned it either.

On the other hand, my Steyr Scout (I know, I know, a ton of people here think they're over-priced silly toys...and they're right!) is something that grabbed me and never let go. It's a keeper.

You gotta get what you want. If you're lucky, you'll love it and keep it. If you don't, so what? At least you'll know.

I had two, one green PI and one black PII. I did like the PI more than the PII but still they were equal great shooters. Curiously the PI was a one holer at 100 yds with Federal 150gr SP factory ammo.

Holy Necropost Batman!

At the last Eganville Gun Show their was a guy who had a brand new SSG 69 with 2 mags and rings. He was only asking $2200. I kept coming back and staring at it so much that by the end of the day he said I could have it for $1800. I was trying to rationalize it, but I just didn't have the cash.

SSG-69 with Kahles 10x Scope (steel tube with Ranging Reticle)

Bought rifle used for $1200 in 1995 (it came with scoperings but no scope). Had a little trouble finding scope but eventually bought new for $1300.

Came with iron sights but no sling, bi-pod, or case.

Also bought 2 or 3 spacers and built up stock with foam and tape for better hold and eye elevation / sight picture.

Both scope & rifle are excellent with consistent accurate CCB shot and sub 1 MOA out to 700m

only problem is finding 168 gr. match ammo

only thing I dont like is doing a single round drop in load (ackward due to enclosed breech area, have to feed round in though ejection port). Bolt and barrel are massive, very strong.

Made in Austria , "Ja, I lav it"

Anyone know about rings for these rifles? I'm pretty sure I'm going to be getting one soon and I am searching for info about the little stuff now. Do you have to use the steyr rings or is someone making aftermarket rings? Ideally in 34mm.

EAW does 34mm rings for the Steyrs. We carry the line.

I was at Target Sports last week and they had a really nice green one with a Leupold tactical scope I think the price was $2100. It was a really nice looking gun in great shape. Was there Monday and was helped by a really nice guy named Doug, definately worth a look if you are looking for one.

Ssg-04

Skippy809, I own a SSG-04. Bought it brand new last year, with the Harris bi-pod, for $2,950.00, and put a Burris Fullfield 6 - 20 power scope on it for another $700.00. It is a beautifully looking rifle, very well balanced, cold forged floating barrel with a factory muzzle brake, 10 rd. mag. It shoots like a dream, extremely accurate, smooth action and a great trigger. In my opinion, it is one of the most accurate and well made precision rifles on the market.

Unfortunately, have to sell it as I just bought a Sako TRG. Pains me to do that, but keeping two fairly similar precision rifles doesn't make sense. I personally feel marginally more comfortable shooting TRG, although the accuracy is the same.

Not to highjack the thread but it looks like some CGN members are looking for Steyr Mannlicher SSG69 rifles. Fine, because I am looking too. In fact, I have been waiting for quite a while to buy a new SSG P11 rifle. Reason : none available. Can a dealer order one from the - only - distributor in Canada ? Answer : maybe. Is the - only - distributor willing to order one from the Company ? That, I don't know.
During the last ten months, I have contacted three dealers to get that rifle. One wasn't obviously interested and the other two are still working on it. In all honesty, I must say that I have not put any pressure on them. Do we have to pester them, really ?
I will skip the details.
Back to the topic. More than twenty years ago, I have watched #### de Jong (Canadian Pistol Institute, New Brunswick) put a bunch of bullets inside six inches at six hundred yards (Gagetown) with a Steyr SSG69 - and with a fixed power Austrian scope, 6X or 8X, IIRC. It was the first time I was meeting a Steyr SSG69. Did not forget it, no. That rifle is only a "factory rifle", after all.
BTW, I would like to know, from all the Steyr SSG69 lovers out there, what scope they would choose for that specific rifle (brand, magnification, fixed power or variable, reticule, etc). Caliber .308 Winchester, of course.

Voilà !
