Steyr vs Sako vs Sig

Dosing: Okay maybe not a 700 :p. Main point is though, you can build a way more accurate rifle for $3000 rather than getting the SSG-3000.

Rohann, In your post you say "My 700's tuned trigger is the best I've ever shot with", then in the same paragraph "I will be surprised and dissapointed if this doesn't shoot 1/2 MOA with reloads". Have you actually ever fired this rifle that you compare all others to, or not?

I've dry fired about 80 times with dummy rounds (couple times a day for a long while). I haven't shot any live ammo with it yet, but am going to do so as soon as the glass comes in. I have shot with a few two-stage match triggers, and while they were still outstanding, I find mine easier and more comfortable to use.

These were package guns, good luck on turning any rem klunker into something in the same league as the SSG3000 for that price.

I can think of five guys right off the top of my head running with klunkers... according to matches results we're all doing okay... right out to 1000 with these rigs... actually I've got two klunkers

Ok .the way I see it is that you can "custom design build" one hellofa tack driver for around the cost of a TRG42 and in most cases outperform the factory rifles you mention.
A one of a kind project rifle that you've always dreamed of...
The general drawback is in "resale" values.Top end factory rifles carry generally higher resale value percentage wise than Top end component built customs...
However if " ultimate performance" is wanted and who care's about resale values ,I say "leave your mark and build your dream".
We have top notch smiths, components, and abilities here in Canada to
put together just about anything you can dream up.
Half the fun in a Custom Gun build I found was in doing the research, tweaking designs and proving the finished product.
Some people take pride in owning a "I designed/built/assembled this myself" versus "ya I got a Cadillac fully loaded"
Thank God for experimenters and customs......

I have make quite all the same search few month ago, ONT0001 is right, if you don't mind to have a rifle identical to your brother than go for the cadillac, if you prefer to have a one of a kind rifle than go to custom built but i'am not shure you'll save money at the end, SOCOM23 comments help me to change my mind, i was to order a lot of part to have one build here in Canada but when a got pic from is baby, it was to late, i need one so he was very helpfull giving me some info, it end with a price tag of 3799.00$ in my local sako dealer for a TRG-42 in .338LM including the factory bipod from sako so that's about 3249.00$ for the rifle alone, i don't think you will save money for a custom built if you look around carefully and also, good factory or custom built will probably outshoot us anytime anyway.... just my 2 cents

oh btw, thank's SOCOM23 for your excellent info on the rifle and it's accessories...

I run a Harris on my TRG-22 (which is still for sale) and it works fine. you don't need the Sako bipod at all, and in fact some people don't like the Sako bipod as it is floppy and not able to be tightened up for it's swivel movement.

As far as a tuning a 700 "clunker" into the "league" of an SSG-3000, there are many smiths that could build a 700 for that kind of money that would out shoot an SSG-3000 anytime.
