Looking for input from 2011/ 1911 40 owners,....
I have been working on a load for my sti 2011 tactical 5.0...new gun.
I noticed at approx. 1.175 oal with Berrys 180gr fn, that my load with Hp38 powder always runs hot. Do you think because it is a new gun, or just a hotter barrel,..or am I messing up somehow?

I am approx. 8 feet from the chrony...
I tried 5.2gr and went approx. 1010 fps average. I went to 5grs, and noticed it drop about 25fps ..with a roughly 985 fps.
I thought by what i read online that I should be lower than that...so I am going to drop it again to roughly 4.82grs...i theorize I will be at 955 to 960 fps. Thoughts? new barrel tolerances cause of it running hot?

Hey Mo.
Hodgdon's site shows 5.1gn giving 984 out of a 4 inch barrel but with a shorter OAL of 1.125.
That was specifically with Berry's bullets too.
I'd say your results are pretty much in line with that.

Are you comparing velocities to jacketed bullet loads? I noticed with plated bullets like berry's and cam pro, I'm almost always faster than the listed jacketed load data. Also, it could just be as simple as the gun and length of barrel used in the listed loads vs what you are using.

Thanks...just a bit under at 930-935 fps with 4.82 to 4.86. Bumped to 4.92. Should be good.

AWS Gemini pro..mini jewelry scale. Works excellent. My sd is very low when i use it to hand way my 300 blkout charges.
