STI Edge vs Tanfoglio Extreme Custom vs Glock 35, IPSC Standard

get a 2011, the tanfo's crack at the frame near the safeties.
That issues' been fixed for a while & we've never seen an Xtreme come back for repair.

only reason why grauffel shoots them is because he gets free guns. he will shoot a gun for a few thousand rounds and once it breaks he gets another one.
Bulls#it. Chatted with Eric myself this summer and he says he's shooting the hell out of 'em for long long periods of time.

Where do you come up with this stuff? I only have a sample of one Tanfoglio.

I bought, apparently by mistake if I take your comment to heart, a Tanfoglio "L" about 10 years ago. I quit tracking the number of rounds of 9MM and 40cal I put on the frame but at last count it was over 12K rounds, not much but I do have other guns that get more play than my old Tan. I guess I got lucky cuz the gun is just as tight now as the day I bought it.

Understand my gun is just a low budget gun. The trigger was nothing to write home about but neither is my shooting ability. The trigger improved over time, my ability not so much. I kind of do the IDPA stroll as opposed to the IPSC strut.

Unlike Grauffel, I shot the Tan cuz it goes bang every time, the darn slide just hasn't broken. According to you the ability to get a new gun every other month would be the number one reason why Graufel shoots the Tan. He probably gets a kick out of it when it comes apart. Parts flying all over. Just another reason why IPSC is known to be an exciting sport.... I guess.

I didn't get the high end model that gets you a new gun every other month. Rats ! Here I thought I bought a pretty decent gun back in the day. I should shoot it more. Sean you gonna replace my Model "L" if and when it ever has the slide break?? It has been used gently, hardly ever out of the gun safe and only been in a holster a few times. Less than...

Take Care

Bob

Personally, if I was going to IPSC Standard, I would go for the CZ Tactical Sport Orange in 40 S&W. it is accurate, fast shooting, and as reliable as can be!

You can't leave that awesomeness unfinished. Go ahead and order the missing gun and repost the pic. It is a new year with a new gun budget. Just do it.

Congrats! You will be very happy taking the step to open class. I have a Shadow 2 for Production, a Para 16-40 fully customized for Standard (with a 2 lb trigger pull), and they are collecting dust since I went to open class. Cheers!

i know i'm way late but i say run an edge. for a competition gun you can't get any better than a 1911 trigger. please don't add one of those god awful support hand thumb rests as seen in previous posts on a sub par system.

I have one and it is amazing. out of the box trigger cant be beat. 100% reliable and accurate

The TS Orange is better than the standard TS....
Seems like the best value for standard div. To me
What holster are you using on the Orange?

I use a CR Speed. They are awesome guns for IPSC. I have been running a standard TS for 2.5 years and the Orange since this spring. 0 malfunctions. Out of the box it runs 100% No mag/trigger tuning required. My personal experience the TS has been fantastic. Would I also use an EDGE? of course I would. Would I like it better than a TS? That is personal preference based on ergonomics. (I have an STI open gun and love it) I would put a stock TS trigger up against any stock STI trigger including the DVC. Again preference. I have not had a bad experience with any of the 3 TS I have. If others have had issues I'd like to know what they are. There are only 2 things I have seen cause any issues and they are weak extractor springs and magazines with feed lips too far out of spec causing nose up Jams. Easy fix there. They are both great guns. You have to base your decision on ergonomics/price/value etc. Both great options. Try both out if you can and then decide. The winner in standard division of the 2016 Canadian Nationals used a CZ TS Orange.

I have two Tanfoglio Limited Customs and up-graded both with Xtreme parts when these parts first started coming out. I have over 35K through my Hard Chrome (primary gun) and over 15K through my Gun Kote Limited Custom. I also have a CZ tactical Sport Orange .40 S&W. First, I love the Tanfoglios. Ergonomically perfect for me. I always concentrate on the grip of the gun when I pick it up. If it isn't perfect or if I cannot change something to make it perfect, I will not consider it. I think we all agree that grip is extremely important. Second, I like my guns heavy... period. A heavy gun feels solid in my hands and is great for recoil management. Good sights are the next thing I look for. I prefer a front fibre for my competition guns and it has to be a good fibre sight that I can acquire easily. Not all fibre sights are equal. I prefer a fully adjustable rear sight but I can live with it if it isn't. This is likely the only thing I may compromise on in regards to my preferences. Obviously, I look for the fit of the gun and how it cycles. I don't want any slop in the gun...nothing rattling around or shaking. So, a nice good and tight fit. Finally, the trigger...I want the trigger smooth right from the start. It doesn't necessarily have to be light out of the box (but I would prefer it to be light out of the box) but a smooth pull is key to me. I don't mind doing trigger jobs. Shape of the trigger is something I look at as well. I prefer a straighter trigger than a very curve one such as on the Tanfoglio Stock III (standard model) which I also own. I have a Henning straight trigger on my Limited Custom hard chrome and an Xtreme trigger on the Limited Custom (Gun Kote). I much prefer the Henning trigger and will buy a second one for my other LC. My trigger pulls are both at 1 lbs 11 oz. They are smooth and crisp at the break point and reset very short.

I also believe that choosing a pistol is very personal and one gun may be good for you but totally wrong for your buddy. I always advocate that you try the gun you are interested in first before buying it. Ask around and see if someone has the gun you are interested in and see if they will let you try it. Be sure to ask what they have done to the gun if anything. You want to know if you are shooting it as it came out of the box or if it has been modified / worked on. I love my Tanfoglios....all of them Limited Customs, Stock III and Gold Custom Eric 2007. My Limited Customs have performed extremely well for me. Unfortunately, 2 days before the 2015 Nationals my hard chrome cracked by the safety (left side). The gun had 25K on it at the time. It has over 36K now and is still running. Has this deterred me from considering Tanfoglios in the future? No, but I'm not happy about my frame...

The CZ Tactical Sport Orange couldn't be closer to a Tanfoglio...for me. It feels near identical in my hands as my Limited Customs. The weight of the gun is beautiful....remember, I like heavier guns....maybe you don't....your preference. The gun is beautifully fitted and the sights are bang on for me in all respects...love the front fibre. Grip is perfect in my hands..as I said near identical to my Limited Customs...sharp aggressive fore and back-straps, nice deep under-cut at the trigger guard and pistol grip, as well the cut into the grip and under the beavertail is deep and high which allows you to get a high solid grip on the gun and close to the bore's axis. All great for recoil management. The trigger design of the Orange is extremely nice...straight and with a nice little hook at the bottom. I wasn't sure about the hook at the bottom of the trigger but I can tell you that I like it! The trigger pull is...wow...smooth, crisp and light at 1 lbs 11 oz, right out of the box. The trigger is so smooth that it feels lighter than my Limited Customs which are also 1 lbs 11 oz. The thumb rest is perfectly located on the TS Orange and at the perfect angle as well. I am very picky about my guns and their features and I have a very hard time saying anything negative about the TS Orange even as a Tanfoglio guy. There is one thing that CZ missed and that is the extended magwell is not blended perfectly with the pistol's magwell. The Limited Custom is 100% perfectly blended but the TS Orange has a little edge / lip all round which the mags can and will get stuck on during a speed reload. My Dremel will fit that issue. For the price tag of the CZ TS Orange, you would have a hard time going wrong with it. I might even chose it over a Tanfoglio Xtreme Limited Custom.

I have not shot a STI Edge but I have seen and held them. I like it but I know so many guys you have nothing but trouble getting their mags tuned correctly for the gun...well for almost any STI not just the Edge. I'm only making this statement from what I have seen at many matches over the last 7 years that I have been shooting IPSC. The Edge is a very nice pistol but I don't know what it shots like. It feels good in my hands but I can't saying anymore that as I have never look at the Edge close enough. My encounters have always been too brief. One thing I can say is that the price tag today is eye opening. Very very pricey. So I come back to the CZ TS Orange, for $2400 and change, you are getting much more gun than you realize. I think that you simply can't go wrong with the CZ TS Orange. Yup, I'm a Tanfoglio guy and I'm saying you can't go wrong with the CZ TS Orange. I'm surprising myself by saying that but I have to be honest.

Since this is still going.....I would say you cannot pick one over the other from pictures, anecdotal info, or spec sheets. You actually have to hold both in your hands. Better yet if you can shoot them. They are night and day different. You might have a preference for the metal vs plastic grip or grip shape. You will definitely have a preference for either slide in frame as opposed to side over frame. Try racking the slide in your preferred manor and see if that makes a difference. Last point is the rear sight on the Tanfos might shred your hands if you use an overhand side rack technique. These are make or break features depending on your ergonomics and handling techniques.
